This TAS is literally: Person: "How many unintended wall clips and midairs?" Answer: *yes*
@whenthingsfly42833 жыл бұрын
How come you haven't posted a tas in a while? These are really decent TAS' but you stopped 2yrs ago :/
@FuryfulFawful2 жыл бұрын
@@whenthingsfly4283 I picked up a full time job two years ago and am therefore busy with other stuff, unfortunately :( Invictus' Wall Clips% TAS has been two levels away from done for two years but I haven't found the motivation to finish it properly, and making any of these is rather time intensive so it's hard to get the motivation to start. I do really enjoy it, but free time isn't what it used to be...

Random question but which midair do you prefer to use in TAS? Flick, tap, or drop?
@FuryfulFawful2 жыл бұрын
The fastest midair is a mixture of flick and tap - you flick to regain nomenum, then release to make sure you don't turn the shell before you release, then you tap when it comes time to actually throw it. That said, when it comes to Sheffy physics, the "perfect flick" (one frame left, one frame right+release) works to midair. That's entirely because shells go slower in this hack, though - vanilla mechanics use what I described

This dude completely rewrote the code for how shells work but didn't remove wall-clips?
@FuryfulFawful5 жыл бұрын
I mean, it wasn't a complete rewrite. The multihit shells are on SMW Central, then launch speeds were adjusted and the positioning of upwards-thrown shells was changed to be consistent. Beyond that they're all vanilla mechanics... But those small changes make a huge difference in how it plays. But yeah, he didn't remove wall clips. I'm not complaining :P

I'd love to see a no wall clip tas... I get it, but this takes away from the intent of the hack
@jdhannan5 жыл бұрын
That said, I watched this whole thing and enjoyed it. Good job!
@FuryfulFawful5 жыл бұрын
West released the hack with wall clips for everyone, not just for me. I'd argue that makes it part of the intent of the hack. Besides that, doing a no-wall-clip TAS implies that we either modify the rom to add the wall clip patch, or that we just avoid wall clipping because it's... not in this nebulous concept of "the intent of the hack"? But modifying the rom to remove cheese for the sake of a TAS just seems silly, and calling things "in the intent" of the hack is antithetical to the idea of a TAS overall - next, one could argue I should remove early midairs since those aren't human-feasible either and thus not in the intent of the hack, and rinse repeat until you get a human-theory TAS, which is... cool, I guess? But it doesn't show off any of the things that makes TAS special to me, and if someone were to do that I might watch it but I wouldn't build it myself.

What is happening at 9:17. Is that a wall clip right when the on off switch changes?
@FuryfulFawful5 жыл бұрын
Mario controls the on-off switch during this level, so I'm able to switch the on/off blocks with R and jump at the same time. It's much more lenient than a normal wall clip in terms of horizontal position and unlike a normal wall clip won't destroy your momentum, but it does work off the same basic principle.
@tendamolesta5 жыл бұрын
It's clearly played by a human :D
@Seathorne745 жыл бұрын
Nice work! One question: are 1-frame instant block grabs patched out? If the mechanics were vanilla, I believe Mario could grab the block at 2:07 without losing any horizontal speed.
@FuryfulFawful5 жыл бұрын
Maybe? I tried messing around with that grab for a bit and couldn't keep my momentum. Maybe I'm just bad, maybe it's one of the physics modifications. Probably the former and not the latter, though.
@Seathorne745 жыл бұрын
@@FuryfulFawful I think it has to do with Mario's subpixels. There's a level in Takumi V where you need to grab one of these blocks without losing any speed, but you have to slightly duck or left-right at some point to make it possible.
