Tascam DR-60D mkII + Shure SM7b + FetHead - REVIEW

One of the age old, most common question we ask when it comes to the Shure SM7b dynamic microphone - "can X run this mic?", "Does it need a FetHead?"
Unfortunately, I couldn't much information with the Tascam DR-60DmkII audio field recorder, so I went ahead and purchased these three bits of gear to find out myself.
I will also share with you my review on this 4-track recorder after using it for a couple of months in this mini review.

Sounds great with this combo. I do recommend the three pieces though, the TASCAM, SM7B and the Fethead for best sound quality.

What do you think about the 70d compared with the 60d?

Audio quality wise should be similar or the same. Difference there are 4 total XLR vs 2 on the 60D. It's still a four-track recorder. If you need the 4 XLR, it makes sense otherwise it's even bulkier?

Good point. Built in mic sounds good but the shape and size of the unit makes it rather difficult to use in reality. More like scratch audio only. Not considering Zoom products? Those have better mics and swappable capsules.

Well just bought the 70d used on eBay thks to your enlightenment. Compared H6, 70d better as I can mount a camera on top. Also, to my ear from KZbin comparison, 70d/60d sound more subtle unlike the H6 which sounds more aggressive. Size wise, stackable is good for me. The Zoom stuff are good handheld but not mountable. Well.....

About using it as an interface: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2e7pYqCn9erm5o I did follow how to do it, to been able to plug 3 mics and get them through a pc, and streaming it, and it worked nice, even with a basic interface as UM2. I hope you could give it a try.
