Just starting out on a Model 12. Get it in a couple of days, but so far, this has been the best tutorial for someone in my position. I don't plan on using DAW functions or even USB functions. Just using it as a PA that I can record on separate SD card but acts as a mixer for a Solo Acoustic Act (3-5 inputs depending on what instruments I bring.) Just want to get my live sound recorded as close as possible to my...live sound. Out board, portable recording units wasn't hacking it and just a pain to place and set up. :) And that's what you covered so well. Thanks :)

I’ve recently had a heart attack and have been on a lot of new meds, when I finally got back out to my studio I wanted to cut my drums on my Tasc 24 then drop them into my Protools but I couldn’t remember how to be able to control the fader after I cut them live. I spent hours and read and reread the manual and couldn’t figure out which (simple) step I was forgetting and it was to switch from live to MTR after cutting the tracks! It’s been driving me nuts. I could hear the tracks back but couldn’t control the mix with the faders. Thank you, thank you, thank you. There’s tons of videos on here to show you how to record but they don’t show the switching the modes back to MTR. Best “how to” on the tascam by far.

Great video! Just what I needed for my band, who wants to record live in our rehearsal space. About the vocals: how would you record them if you're playing live? The band needs to hear the vocals through our PA, but we'd also like the signal to go into the TASCAM. How do we go about this?
@ryan2stix10 ай бұрын
Hey dude! Depends on your room, but for us, we had the vocals going through the PA like a normal jam, and just recorded them live that way, we didn't get any bleed from the vocals into the instrument mics... now..if you do happen to get bleed I would try the low cut filter

I play drums for my band and am looking to get one of these to record practices. Can I soundcheck the band to get the levels and then record or will I need to enlist someone to run sound for us each practice? Lastly, you said you learned how to use this from KZbin; how did you learn all the specifics and what each thing means? I’ll be coming into this pretty blind myself so I need to learn

One thing you forgot to mention, or maybe didn't know at the time.... when you do your stereo mixdown on the unit & upload that to your computer, however you had it EQ'd in your mix before won't be the same (if that makes sense.) I haven't actually tried that yet because I've only had mine for a few weeks, but that's what others have told me. & that sucks for those of us who don't use a DAW... or in my case, can't use one.
@ryan2stix10 ай бұрын
I know if you drag and drop each individual track to the computer its raw...but...I think when you write the stereo track, it has the eq...I'm going to have to test that out!

It sounds like you're not actually using this on stage, but for jamming? Why aren't you using your eq's or effects live? I would probably be using the reverb for live. Also, live I wouldn't be messing with stopping and starting...I would just record complete sets at least, if not the entire gig. 3 hours or so. I'm assuming with the right card, you can get 3 hours? I would then take the card out and mess with it in my DAW. I may do a pre-mix on the unit itself, like you're doing, but then take it all to the DAW. But, if I've done the Live mix correct, I wouldn't need to mix it again I'm thinking. Anyway That's the way I'm thinking of using it. Not trying to get studio quality recordings. More for Demo's and KZbin vids. Does that make sense with this unit?

@@ryan2stix Yeah, not helping me here. Trying to find a way to use all the eq's and effects live...as well as record it all at the same time. With everything that I'm using live. That's what I thought this thing was for in the first place. Seems hardly anyone is using it for stage mixer/recorder. Probably have to set it to record mode, with all the eq's and effects, and then instead of sending it to headphones or computer...send the entire recording mix...to the stage speakers via a sub or aux channel. That's how I do it on the Tascam DP 24sd. Got both the recording and the live sound stage mix. But, it shouldn't be that hard I'm thinking. Getting it tomorrow, I'll read the manual.

I strongly disagree that this is fit for remix duty. Lacking any recall in 2024 is simply ridiculous. Fader matching LEDs are a slap in the face to a potential user seeking recall-ability. Tascam might have just made their newest flop, after the debacle of DA-series digital tape recorders, suggesting with a straight face that users might wish to use a 1979 mixer to remix a recording tracked in a modern way. Yes, it is a very useful interface. Yes, many will find it adequate for concurrently providing a mix to a band’s own simple PA system. No, it is not a recording mixer by even the wildest stretch of the imagination.
