I showed it to my husband (Japanese) and he was surprised just how different Tassie is to what he imagines Australia to be like, too. I'm a Brit that lived in Australia for 35 years that included 2 years in Tassy. It was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever lived in....feel very fortunate that I had that opportunity. Life on the island, even in the small towns/cities that exist, is calm and laid back. Nothing like mainland Australia, it's totally unique.

My daughter and her friend just spent 3 weeks in Tasmania and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Both her friend’s sisters live there and they stayed with them. My daughter was blown away by the scenery especially around Freycinet and the north east. She also loves hiking and did quite a lot of hikes at Cradle Mountain and Ben Lamond. I have also been to Tasmania in 1977 although I was only 9 at the time but can still remember the remarkable scenery and landscape of this wild and rugged state. It’s a place that has been lost in time and the beaches are said to be the best in Australia especially Bay of Fires. The water so crystal clear. My daughter however did have encounters with the local wildlife - she hit a Pademelon but both the animal and her car were okay. She also hit a Turbo chook but it too got up and walked away. It’s sad the amount of roadkill there as the state is so remote and rugged. It certainly is the island state.

I've been all around the world. My time in Oz was great. But my trip to Taz was the highlight. Driving down to Hobart and climbing down into wineglass bay was something I will always remember and cherish. Such a beautiful pristine wilderness. Hopefully you can keep the loggers at bay and not make the same mistakes as we have in Canada. Clear cutting has ruined so much of our natural beauty. I live in Nova Scotia now and while it is another beautiful island I found the remoteness of Tasmania one of it's blessings. Also unbelievable that most Aussies have never even been there (might be a good thing). Great drone shots by the way.

Tasmania and Newfoundland. Two islands every local knows about, but very few visit. I live in Canada and have yet to visit Newfie, however, I stayed in Tassie for a few months. It’s a beautiful and varied island and I loved the sense of humour “Bust-Me-Gut”:Hill”. But didn’t appreciate the unexpected encounters with Huntsmen (spiders) and a few other peskies! I got to go on Vaca in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. Those humpback whales also hang out here with their babies once a year. I had read a story about them before we left, never thought id see it though. The day before we were to go home, we took a "booze cruise" for an afternoon of drinking and snorkeling. Well when we got done and were heading back... A baby humpback jumped about 50M from out boat! Then all of a sudden you see all these giant mothers coming to the surface and the babies jumping around. It was amazing and i was so blessed to catch that moment of them leaving the bay! Never will forget it.

Thank you so much for this documentary it has reinforced my belief that Tasmania is one of the last true wilderness areas of Australia, it has left me hankering to go back, I always wanted to go and finally got my chance after my wife passed away in 2011, I initially only intended to stay only around 6 weeks but kept extending my stay and ended up staying over 2 years and travelled over most of the island in my camper and would still be there if my son had not been diagnosed with a brain tumor and I returned to the mainland (the big island) to be with him, would love to go back. Again, thank you for this well produced doco. I have subscribed to this Chanel and will be coming back!!!

Stunning documentary capturing some of the very best Tasmania has to offer. Having been raised in Tasmania, I think how much you appreciate the island is down to where you live, with whom you associate, and how you spend your time. It is not automatically a depression-free island of joy. But it can be one of the most wonderful places on earth and certainly one of the most beautiful. My personal favorite (not to diminish the rest) is the alpine region. One of my favorite memories is spending a week there with family, completely isolated from the worries of the world: playing games, reading, relaxing, and feeling like part of the Fellowship from The Lord of the Rings when walking and climbing my way up Cradle Mountain with my father. Mystical and fantasy-like are words I don't often attribute to nature, but I certainly would there. I don't live there anymore, but if I could give my past self one piece of advice, it would be to have gone and enjoyed the many beauties the island has to offer with friends and family more often.

Great documentary. As a Tasmaniac, always proud of my Island State. After living over on that small Island above { the so called Mainland ! } for over 2 decades - came back to enjoy the cooler climate. Especially with climate change upon us. Much to my mainland friends bewilderment , I had been vocal in yearning for; frosty mornings, foggy valleys, and gobsmackingly dramatic cloudscapes against dark peaks etc. etc. Of course climate change is here too and lately we've seen subtropical forests & wet areas drying out and burning that haven't seen fire for over a thousand years... And the volume and accelerating pace of species loss is very alarming. The State Govt could do a LOT more. And - for those viewers who are not Aussies; Tasmania is - allegedly - roughly the same size as Switzerland - or the US State of Virginia. :)

Brief facts about Tasmania: 1) A state in Australia that consists of the mountainous island itself & several smaller islands. 2) It is separated from the southeast coast of mainland Australia by the Bass Strait. 3) Its pop. is approx. 500,000 & its capital is Hobart. 4) it used to be known as Van Diemen's land until 1855. 5) There exists a Tasmanian devil, a heavily built marsupial w/ powerful jaws, & mainly black fur, & found only in Tasmania. It is rather slow-moving & ferociously aggressive, & feeds on carrion, i.e., the decaying flesh of dead animals. This nat. Doc. is not only edifying but also informative. I lived in Tasmania for seven years. One of my favorite memories of living there was rock climbing on the Freycinet Peninsula sea cliffs at sunset when a Southern right whale swam to the bottom of the cliff and looked up at us as we looked down on her. I married the Tasmanian lady I climbed with that day.

This is very well filmed and the narration was beautiful. As a human living in NE Tasmania, I can't help but see how much wasn't said. Tasmania needs protection, in all honesty, this documentary is made for the travel industry. Some mention was made of Tasmania's plight at the end, but no effort was made to show the true damage to our forests. Anyone presenting such amazing footage from the sky could never have failed to notice how little real forest remains. Please, help to be a solution to the problem.

Hi Sandra, Firstly thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. It is clear you are a very passionate about the plight of Tasmania’s Natural Wilderness areas. There are many videos, documentaries and films out there that cover the damage being done to Tasmania’s forests. In researching this film I would have personally watched a good dozen of them on KZbin alone. Rest assured I have seen, and am horrified by, the destruction of Tasmania’s natural wilderness. I guess my approach to film making is presenting what remains with its plant and animal inhabitants from a perspective of wonder and awe. The way I view these places when I visit them. And it’s this perspective of wonder about the natural world that makes me truly value the uniqueness and fragility of these ever shrinking islands of nature around our country. To that end I hope that my films might persuade others to value what remains as much as I do. I guess it’s a softer way of persuading an audience to take a point of view. You may disagree with my approach, and that’s fine. Thank you Sandra for taking the time to watch my documentary to the end, and thank you for the positive feedback too 😊. @@sandrahealey6385 Thank you. You are defending something of intangible value, a value reflected by the UNESCO listing of the TWWHA which is the highest rating of any other than Taishan (7/10). But indeed, it is at the precarious blade of a corrupt mechanism (the fact that logging loses money for the state) held up by short-sighted greed, uncaring for neither Tasmania, its people (not to mention the biodiversity & superlative flora and fauna) and history, nor the future. Some hope may be federally, that despite the millions pledged to preserve the dying unethical industries without a Just Transition, we may get a new government with a Greens balance of power, who may increase the likelihood of a ban on logging our native forests which are becoming ever rare in the modern era as we act like a developing country (one of 4 deforestation hotspots). The forest wars have been going on meaninglessly long. We almost had a compromise in 2013 until the Feds turned the tides, so it can happen this time in reverse. Also, it is quite clear Mr Barnett is corrupt in some form, judging by his actions without oversight and a toothless integrity commission. Even federally we've fallen into the corruption watchlist (I recommend a Knights in Shining Llama series to watch).

Some sources actually classified them as 'the world's rarest goose' but that title actually goes to a goose in Hawaii. Good for the Cape Barren Goose I guess. My birthplace before moving to Europe 20 years ago, it can be hot there in summer up to 40c at times, the east coast is my favourite side of the island, the main things I miss are the smell of the gum trees, and the unique animal life!
