I am watching the throw against the Georgian player at 8:01, again and again. Can someone tell me why this is waza ari??????? Also, isn't the counter attack against Riner the one that was cancelled by the referee committee on the basis that it was not an official judo technique, HAHAHA....I think this was one of the most ridiculous decisions in the history of competitive judo.

The same thing happened to the greatest Basketball player of the NBA...WILT CHAMBERLAIN in the early 70s I think. In an NBA game he made a pass from a block in one single quick movement and the referees called it a foul. Traveling. WILT CHAMBERLAIN replied: "Only because you never saw that before it doesn't mean automatically that it is a foul" That happens with all inventive steps in sports... It is a human weakness.

I can't think of a name for the kansetsu against the Mongolian player. It is not included in the Kodokan official kansetsu waza. It could be a Hara gatame but the opponent's arm is too high on the Russian's chest.

Judo seems to have deteriorated massively since I did it in the 80's. None of those throws would have gotten nearly as high as score back then. The two WazaRis would barely have scored at all, and would have been Kokas, or no more than Ukos. Sad, really. Frankly, it's pathetic now. Sure glad I had a chance to study when Judo was real. ... And, of course, I wrote this just before the Ashi Waza started. Some great throws there, with a few clear Ippons, but even so, some of these Ippons would have been Waza Ri at most back then. And the throw against Riner starting at about 5:50 he says should have been Ippon, I doubt that would have scored at all. And I noticed this before; it's not just about this video. Oh well, I'm too old to worry about that now.
