Troost Avenue was named after Dr. Benoist Troost, who moved to Independence in 1844. Historically, Troost Avenue has been a racial dividing line in Kansas City.

If you can do one on 47th street. My mom grew up in the early 1940’s at 47th and Tracy, her grandmother and grandfather, different family members lived there, her mother married her father and was there, mom got married after the war to my father there, and when I was born that is where they brought me. Many memories, many stories, I remember getting on the street car to go to the plaza. Never got on one again, they got rid of them. The family did lots of stuff in that area, Troost Prospect etc. it has been completely removed, the whole street. It makes my heart ache. A lot of places repurpose their old homes and buildings. And to remove and reroute a whole street, WHY?

We had a beautiful home at 38th & Bellefontaine which was way east of Troost. It was white up until the 1950's.

It’s unclear? Or it was unspoken? We KNOW why it was east of Troost but please continue..
