PSA: if you are making any of these: 1. For the bologna cake use the red rings to stack them straight without them shifting around but take them off before icing them - failed to mention that step woop! 2. If youre making Tuna Jello - um just dont. Please just dont. 3. If you're making ambrosia salad - I heard of a modernized alternative where you add Whipping cream with cream cheese to make it more flavorful and soft so try that instead! Goodluck! ♡ haha

My Grandma used to make Ambrosia Salad all the time! She taught me how to make it when I was little. Funny thing is, for color (and extra flavor) she would use Jell-O mix, I mostly remember her's made using lime. You can also use cottage cheese in the mix (it tastes really great with pretzels/crackers). I've had the cream cheese mix a couple times too and it's really tasty, but definitely more on the sugary sweet side. Can't wait to watch the more videos like this! :)

The problem with Jelly Tuna is that it was made with vegetable "flavored" jelly wich Jell-O ceased to produce dacades ago. That mean you can't make a real good Jelly Tuna anymore. For sure it's gonna taste awfull with lime Jell-O, it's too sweet and taste fruity. I recommand doing your jelly yourself with vegetable juice (I use V8) and Knox gelatine. It dosn't taste as good but it make the job.

Well in Poland where I live you have pure no taste no colour gelatine, meat jelly (already stock flavoured with yellowish tint) and fruit jelly (colourful fruit flavoured) all in powder form. From my childhood I remember mom's fish or pork in meat jelly prettily decorated with carved carrots, leak etc, and aunt chicken leg jelly served with vinegar right before putting in on the table. Surprisingly all these dishes were really good :)
@margaretcurren75775 жыл бұрын
My parents served both of those dishes among others whenever they had parties in the 50's, and their guests loved them. Now that I think about it, maybe it didn't matter what they ate after they had a few cocktails. The tuna mold was even worse than the bologna cake. You deserve a medal for making and trying them, but those of us who had to eat them as kids deserve a medal too!! Keep making these different dishes from the 50's which I have either forgotten, or tried to erase from my mind. 2 recipes my grandma has been making every Christmas since the late 50s or 60s. I've grown up and enjoyed these for the last 30+ years. (1) Christmas Punch 1 liter Ginger Ale + 1 liter Hawaiian Fruit Punch + 1 can frozen pink lemonade (optional- add champagne) This was originally a recipe from Good Houskeeping Magazine from back then and this is what it evolved to now. (2) Christmas Salad Fruit Cocktale + Whip Cream + Cream Cheese (not sure on the ratios but the cream cheese is whipped together with the whip cream before folding in the drained fruit cocktale. The story behind this recipe is that my grandma unknowingly and accidentally combined 2 different dessert salads at an event she went to held by a friend and then recreated it based on what she remembered. Just wanted to share in case anyone was interested in trying these vintage recipes. Enjoyl

I remember when I was very little, me and my family, were at my grandparents house on my dad's side, along with my aunt Laura and my cousin. I remember sitting next to my cousin in this leather chair, and eating a bowl full of that pink salad in that video. But I don't remember it having tomatoes and nuts in it. But i remember having more than once servings because it was that good.

There were definitely no tomatoes in it, those were cherries lol

My grandmother used to make the Ambrosia salad all the time, yet she called it Watergate salad and it was a bit different. She would add whipped cream, walnuts, marshmellows, a whole can (with the juice) of pineapple, and a pack of pistachio pudding. It was beautifully sweet and I loved it growing up

Tbh it’s a Chinese delicacy to have pork jelly, it’s a savoury agar with a slice of braised pork in each slice :P tastes pretty cool actually

Seems like ambrosia salad has made a comeback, I've seen it at many potlucks and events that I've attended

10:38 I found a recipe that I made for Father’s Day family gathering. Recipe list: Cool Whip, sour cream, crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, maraschino cherries, and color mini marshmallows. DELICIOUS!
