Effing raft in Quest 2 was a game changer for me as a young boy. It never occurred to me that the secret door would be in the friggin' triforce room! That's like the END of the dungeon!! So first time, obviously just grabbed the dumb triangle, level ended, booted outside. Then at some point must have realized I didn't get the special item from Dungeon 4 so went back, deduced the hidden areas via the map, but STILL IGNORING THE TRIFORCE ROOM, did everything else I could to figure it out. Bombing from every wall adjacent, trying the pass thru walk, killing all enemies. Pushing against every friggin block. So much time wasted on such a heinous (and brilliant) level design!

@@Jerry-oz2sj I can't say enough of level 4 damn dungeon drove me nuts, I was in WTF mode close to raging till i finally got it figured out along with Q1L6 and 9. I was one of the many kids unable to afford Nintendo support and refused any tools hints to make the game easy no thanks.

Funny and true story, when this game was brand new I borrowed a copy of the game from a friend before I owned it and jokingly put my name in as "Zelda" but then erased it and changed it to something else. I actually got a weird look from my friend and he said something like, "Duh, the chick is Zelda and you're Link." Oh, how painful and bizarre that would've been if I'd kept it.

I love that the TASes on this channel have been using the CC to explain what is going on. I find watching a TAS so much more fun if stuff is explained while it's happening. Otherwise, it can sometimes just look like the game is glitching and there's no rhyme or reason to it.

God damn they were not fuckin around with those enemy placements back in the day. How many modern zeldas do you walk into a room and eight odd enemies are immediately on your ass?

I used to draw maps for this game back in the early/mid 90s when I was a kid. I remember not being able to find the whistle for a VERY long time and it totally killed the momentum of my first playthrough of this game. I know there's a heart container in the Graveyard and one in the desert and I think the one on the east coast is still there otherwise I don't know where the other 2 are. I remember the red bubbles in this quest were a living nightmare if you got hit by one you had to backtrack and find a blue bubble to use your sword again. I beat this quest once as a kid and never touched it again lol.

When did ZELDA include a disclaimer to hold in RESET when turning the power OFF?
@jondorthebrinkinator
@jondorthebrinkinator Жыл бұрын
The original release did not, but there was a revision to the ROMs later that added that disclaimer. Prior to the MMC3 chip, the NES CPU would still run for a short while after power off and there was no mechanism in the cart to stop writes to SRAM during that time. The MMC3 chip blocked writes immediately when the power was interrupted and prevented that problem.

Small tidbit. Never noticed but in the end credits they have Marymaru, Konchan and TenTen. These aren’t names but nicknames, and Ten Ten is what Japanese call Tin Tin from the adventures of Tin Tin. Edit, Yachan too is a nickname.

This TAS is utterly amazing in its efficiency, making it a pleasure to watch. Nevertheless, it falls short of its goal stated in its title. I fully understand that the author set out with an agenda in mind, and that that agenda was set forth here, and that various comments below address this. I still believe this is inadequate. The title clearly states that ALL ITEMS will be obtained. The title doesn't say "best items" or "full inventory" or anything like that, notwithstanding what the description says. Items missed: Boomerang, Life Potion, White Sword, Blue Ring. Sorry, but if you deliberately bypass the above items, deferring instead to their upgrades, then you're NOT getting "all items," plain and simple. You went to the trouble to get all nine maps and compasses, which do not even count as "items" in a sense, because they serve the purpose of guiding the player to the goal, of which a TAS will already have complete knowledge. Yet you didn't get the four missed items above? Especially considering how close you came to their locations in many cases, this was ludicrous. While I cannot prove this, I have to imagine that getting the White Sword fairly early on would save much time over the course of the run. Are you going to tell me that hacking Pols Voices ten times with an inferior sword in numerous rooms is faster overall, compared to getting the White Sword first? The purchase of the Food at 27:32 was a loss of time, because the Food had been purchased and used profitably earlier in the video, thus rendering it unnecessary at 27:32. Again, a full inventory is not needed per the parameter specified by the title. It only requires "all items."

Pols only take 1 arrow to kill. There were several things in this video that didn't jive.

I’d think “max items” would be a fair compromise tbh
@dankubus1633
@dankubus1633 Жыл бұрын
@Mace Thorns I'm okay with the non-arrow kills on Pols Voices because switching weapons at the menu screen costs time, and that adds up quickly. I can't get behind the insistence to use the weakest sword, though.

I consider glitching to win the same as cheating. That's the same as if athletes were able to bend or break the laws of physics (magic or higher science) to boost their performance. Sure everyone can learn how to do it in video games, but is it as satisfying to win it by using every bug or glitch you know? I guess for some it is. 😞

This is a specific category of speed running. There are non TAS speed runs, and also glitchless versions of non TAS.
@GreywindLina

@@garvensman Interesting. 🤔 I still can't bring myself to approve of it though. It'd be like using a game genie and seeing who can hack the game the most and still clear the game. 🤭 Wait, that would actually be kind of fascinating! With the world falling apart, can they beat the game? Maybe it's already a thing? 😁
@garvensman
@garvensman Жыл бұрын
@@GreywindLina I don’t think there is a cheats by external device category. However, the point of a TAS, is to imagine if “God” or a perfect being was playing a game, and how quickly they could beat it. Tell you what, I might be able to change your mind about this. There is a TAS of someone beating Mario 3, not using glitches. If you can find it, you will find the final levels very interesting, and very amusing. It might change your tune. If I can find it, I’ll link it to you.
