[TAS] SNES Super Metroid "low%" by Sniq in

At the end of Metroid II: Return of Samus, there is but one Metroid left in the universe. Bad things happen, and Samus Aran must once again head for Planet Zebes to battle Mother Brain, Ridley, and the Space Pirates. (And a few other bosses too.)
This movie improves on both prior low% runs (one that collects the Ice Beam and one that collects the Speed Booster) by collecting the Speed Booster and using various Shinespark-related glitches to render the Gravity Suit unnecessary, pushing the total required number of items from 14 down to 13. The author's comments are very detailed, and well worth a read if you're curious about just how everything was done.
There are a number of other routes that can be taken while still getting 13 items, but all of those routes require a specific glitch when fighting Draygon ( • Super Metroid: Ammo gl... ) which gives you a non-infinite but arbitrarily large amount of ammunition; the item route in this movie does not permit the use of this glitch. If you would like to see this glitch, it is featured in the following (now-obsoleted) iteration of the any% run.

I know! I'm half making a joke about how GDQ KZbin videos typically have some commenter saying when the run starts, half making a joke about how the first 2:23 of every Super Metroid TAS video is always going to be the long, unskippable intro sequence, and half trying to be helpful to viewers. That's three halves and I'm proud of it.

So, if you enter the Mother Brain fight with less than three Energy Tanks (or less than two and a Reserve Tank), would you be unable to win due to Mother Brain's Hyper Beam doing 300 damage?

yes, i think so. I never saw a speedrun with less than 3 tanks (in total).

Well, probably because the speedrunners want to actually finish the run (as does everyone). And I didn't mean speedruns specifically. I just meant for that question to be about the game in general.

yeah the low % i seen are far faster than normal speedruns....i wonder if there is a low % run that actually takes longer

Um...what? low% runs are always longer than any%. By definition, any% IS the fastest way to beat the game. If low% was the fastest, then there wouldn't be a distinction between the two. Also, the any% TAS for this game is 38:41, and this low% TAS is 46:32, so I don't know where you're even getting that from.

4 years late but a rlly good example is twilight princess u have to wait hours to watch link hold up a stupid blue rupee to go past a gate that requires an item its not fast but its still lower% than getting said item

It is a Tool Assisted Speedrun (TAS) for the SNES game Super Metroid. The speedrunning category for it is low%, meaning the objective first is to complete the game with as little items collected as possible followed by time spent. In general this excludes any major glitches like out of bounds, save manipulation and ofc cheating.

@@hellboy19991 sure it is , but not having 3 e tanks at mother brain makes me say wtf is this. I've watched low % speedruns and I was sure players were still getting 3 tanks , my memory is hazy I guess if that isn't the case
