The Legendary Axe is about a man, his axe, an evil cult leader, and human sacrifice. Your goal in this game is to rescue your childhood friend Flare from the evil Jagu.

The little heads that signify your remaining lives look like skulls with hair. Also, this game looked pretty damn brutal in a few parts, but the game boss was a chump, or was stun-locked because this is a TAS, in any event I'm just glad he rescued Flair, she was waiting a long time.

The final boss is actually quite difficult. He hops from one side of the screen to the other while attempting to kick the player from mid-air. Unlike with a TAS, human players can't strike him so fast that it prevents him from even moving.

is this game somehow related to the nes game Astynax? it feels so so similar.

Same designer. In fact, Astyanax was originally planned to be part of the Legendary Axe trilogy.
