After watching a handful of videos of Tatang demonstrating his skill I'm understanding that the old masters knew intuitively that their are not a real set pattern of movements of attack and counter attack. By this I mean that only attack and defense exist and it is their forms which change. Even Miyamoto Musashi wrote clearly on this in his _Book of the Five Rings._ And Sun Tzu in his _Art of War_ speaks primarily of attack and defense whose forms change based on the strategies and tactics one employs to meet the enemy's attack or pass their defense. Lastly Bruce Lee's _The Way of the Intercepting Fist_ emphasizes the same truths by saying that their isn't one style and one shouldn't have a preference: only use what works. Yet in all cases these men agree that this deep truth can only be understood through training everyday. It's like how their are only five vowels but the number of sounds produced by their combinations is inexhaustible...wow...very deep stuff...
