I haven't played many players but I could definatly feel this in my last game when 10 got into my eco took me and my friend (2v2) a while to get rid of them and the opponent definatly wasn't great (the moment we were ready and pushed they resigned almost inmediatly)

I wouldn't say they are underrated, everyone knows they are very strong in feudal. The reason you don't see FU scouts very often is because it requires a significant resource investment, which will delay a lot your castle age. So, unless you can do a lot of damage in feudal and delay your opponent castle age too (or make him advance with really bad eco), you will be screwed because scouts just melt against any castle age unit. So, this is often a very risky strategy to use.

Yup feudal scouts with bloodlines have more HP than Imp Hussar without bloodlines. I used to dismiss them but they are very useful in a lot of situations. As teutons I defend my choke points with TKs and will stream scouts along the edges to raid and they do their job very well and can harass villagers

@ 1:55 That market saved my ass in a game against the DE AI (Chinese Civ):the AI was just spamming siege rams, trebs, and knights, and my production couldn't keep up (my Castle Age Armies rarely exceed 20 units, since I tend to be more into quality than quantity: lots of tech, less training). The market stepped into the breach, and between the money and the Mamelukes, I fought them all the way back to their original TC. I lost 56 units--most in the early phase of the war; the Chinese, I don't remember, but it was WAY more. This wasn't the only time the Saracen's attributes--even pre-DE--saved the game: they're a far better civ than people give them credit for. The only problem is that you don't use them the way you would a "strong" Civ: they're the water of AoE2. What is meant by that is explained here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXuwqHWte89opLM It's a civ that demands flexibility, and rewards it: there is no one proper way to play them. How the heck can you pick a specific method, for a jack of all trades civ?

This game makes me quite interested in the Saracens build order now. I think that even if the opposing player anticipates the gold-only scout rush they would be giving Saracens the opportunity to take more golds during feudal, and follow up with monks to convert castle age counters or play the map similar to Arena. Feels a bit like RTS with a simpler resource system like Total Annihilation or Zero-K, with a transition to typical AOE2 play during the late castle age.

Regarding what you said about the weakness of this strategy being you might run out of gold later is pretty moot since you lose almost nothing by having to do that. You can test it in the map editor. I think it's like around 50 gold in total you lose if you buy 1500 food and then immediately sell it back. If you try it with a different civ it's like 500-ish gold or something. My memory is really fuzzy on the numbers but it's something like that.

why do saracen archers do more dmg to buildings how does that make sense?

Soviless99 all civs have some unique bonuses. At first glance it might seem as the unique units are the only difference between civs, but no two are alike, with acess to different units, and upgrades, different stats and unique techs and bonuses. Saracens archer bonus damage against buildings have long been considered one of the worst unique bonuses, because it's not very usable, exept for in some rare circumstanses where you could surprise your opponent by breaking through a wall or something. The fun thing with watching TatoH and other pro play player is that they often find some new way of exploiting an under-used bonus. In this game he used the Saracen market bonus to buy food for scouts, but then switching to archers. This switch would't be possible without that specific bonus since you need an economy focused on food for scouts, but a gold-focused eco for archers.

When you talk about Saracens in AOE, you make me recall 'Lakota' in Rise of Nations. You DON'T choose that nation, it chooses you. They have NO farms or granary. Imagine playing with such a nations...
