As a veteran tatted person, let me just say to anyone getting their first tattoo; get it done in one session if possible. (Obviously I don’t mean huge pieces since those will definitely be multiple sessions) You don’t want to sit through that shit multiple times in a sensitive spot. You might never go back because of the pain and no one wants to be stuck with an incomplete tat. 😑
@yougotgamesonyourphone69473 жыл бұрын
That’s how I was with my back. It was in 3 sessions(first line work, then shading, and last added more theme) but my god that shit hurt. My artist asked if I wanted to stop and I said fuck no cuz I ain’t coming back to finish this and I refuse to walk around with an incomplete tattoo. So I cursed until she finished
@genyfear3 жыл бұрын
@@yougotgamesonyourphone6947 my last tattoo was on the inside of my bicep. I sat through about 5 hours or so of the worst physical pain I had ever gone through. I powered through it because I knew if I didn’t get it done that day, I’d be hesitant to go back. I was really sick the next day, felt like a bad hangover. At least it came out brilliant.

Question for you, I want two small stars (from peter pan) where would t hurt the least? I kind of want it over my heart (I am a woman with boobs so) would that be bad? I'm also black and I have seen some REALLLY bad tattoos that just fade into people's skin I know color is out of the question
@genyfear3 жыл бұрын
@@SPYgirl199812 Okay, so it really depends on the person and your level of pain tolerance. While I haven’t had a tattoo on my torso, I’ve know a lot who have. It’ll hurt more if your rib cage is against your skin, as in being very thin. If that isnt an issue, it’ll soften the blow but I’ll be honest, tats hurt regardless where you get them. That said, I’ve noticed that the softer the skin is, the more pain you’ll have getting tatted there. My inner arm was a nightmare to sit through. My last pieces of advice for those looking to get tatted is 1.) do a lot of research in the person you’re thinking of having it get done. Most artists have their portfolio online that’s linked from the shop’s website. If they’re cheap, there’s probably a reason. (Sometimes they’re apprentices, sometimes they do shotty work, you just gotta use your best judgment) 2.) This only applies to if this is a really recent choice but, if this is a first tat, always stew on it anywhere between 3-12 months. Gives you a chance to think it over, look at yourself in the mirror to visualize how it’ll look. Since yours will be in an area your bra may sit, you’d have to think how to adjust that during healing as tats need to breath to heal, too.
@nem52173 жыл бұрын
That’s really good advice for someone who never had a tattoo before I did mine in one session (it was a smaller tattoo that’s looks pretty basic) I have a question for you when I got mine I found that taking care of it hurt more than getting it is that the case for other people or am I just crazy?

For those who have felt like they’re gonna pass out: EAT A MEAL BEFOREHAND AND BRING SNACKS. Protein-heavy stuff and stuff with sugar (especially healthy sugar like juice) are preferred. I have one tat finished and one in process. I barely ate before my first one and ten minutes in I almost passed out, and recovered by stopping and eating candy and then knocked out a 2 hour session with no more breaks. Just went in for initial lines and shading on my second one and I had a full breakfast about an hour and a half beforehand, had zero trouble with a 3 and a half hour session with a couple 15 minute or so breaks to munch on protein bars. You drop your blood sugar when the pain response kicks in and that’s why you feel sick or pass out. This is coming from someone who nearly passes out from getting blood drawn and it’s ENTIRELY because I’m not allowed to eat first. Food is your friend when preparing to get tattooed. That and lidocaine cream (you can grab 4% lidocaine cream in the topical pain relief aisle at your local pharmacy chain). Eat, and use the cream on the area (put it on thick and put plastic wrap over it) an hour or so before you get your tattoo. I felt so much better the second time around just by doing those two things.

I don't have any tattoos yet (I'm 18 and not sure if there's a minimum age requirement) but I know at least one that I want to get: a Living Connector done in metallic silver. I was originally planning to get it on my forehead but I think a less conspicuous location would be better. For anyone who doesn't know what a Living Connector is, it's from _Kamen Rider W._ Simply put, it's a small biocircuit permanently embedded in the user's epidermis that is designed as a safe method of transmitting Gaia Energy from a capsule into the user's body (in the show, the capsules are USB drives called Gaia Memories, and are manufactured and sold by an electronics company owned by the Sonozaki family). Doing so allows the user to transform into a Dopant with powers based on the information contained within the Memory. The information itself is sourced from the Gaia Library which contains information about everything on Earth, including the moon, man-made satellites, and (based on the existence of a UFO Gaia Memory) extraterrestrial technology. A Living Connector is not required to transform into a Dopant, but transmission of Gaia Energy directly through the skin without a Living Connector results in moderate to severe damage to the area of the body where the Memory was activated. Furthermore, even with a Living Connector, repeated Dopant transformations can corrupt the user's mind. The Gaia Driver (the first Memory Driver) was created to eliminate the mental destabilisation, but only managed to postpone the effects temporarily. Later Memory Drivers (the Double, Lost and Accel Drivers, namely) limit the Gaia Energy transmission even more, and are designed to be used with Refined Memories rather than Dopant Memories, resulting in the user becoming a Kamen Rider instead of a Dopant. Type 1 Refined Memories are normally used with these Drivers, and it is unknown if they can be used with Living Connectors. Friend’s ex gets a tattoo of an angel on the top of her foot. It was gothic, done in purple, blue and black. She chose to have it done during winter, and we’re in the northeast. Instructions were to only wear open shoes for a while so the color wouldn’t run. Of course she doesn’t listen cus she has to wear her Uggs everywhere she goes. Next time I saw it, come spring, it was horrendous. The top of her foot looked like it’d been smashed with a hammer

My artist for my first tattoo actually said it was good I was a little nervous, I can’t remember his exact wording but it was a weird reason. But I do remember he made me feel validated in my anxiety lol. And it didn’t even hurt all that much (got a watercolor galaxy lotus on my back shoulder, I specifically chose that spot because it’s easy to hide and is one of the least painful places to get a tattoo).

I got my first tattoo on my ankle and surprisingly I don’t remember it being that painful. I was really nervous and probably high off of adrenaline or something. It was nowhere near as painful as my cartilage piercings. I was planning to get one on my upper back but now I’m scared I’ll puke or pass out because apparently that’s common :/?

First tattoo was on my foot. And it isn’t small either 😩… I def wasn’t screaming or crying, but it hurt like hell. Been almost ten years and I’m too scared to get it touched up.

I didn’t realize the ankle/foot is the worst area to get tattoos. That’s where all three of my tattoos are, my first was over ankle bone and Achilles heel.

I still feel bad for my artist, but I’m also a very anxious person. First tattoo was a three hour, color, realism tattoo on my ribs. I definitely squirmed at the end but tried to stay still and it still haunts me. I’m definitely going back tho bc it’s absolutely gorgeous and I’ve heard “I’m not into color tattoos but that’s beautiful/incredible” more times than I can count

My first/only tat so far is a 2x3 inch tribute tattoo, my mom kept asking me over and over a few days before our appointment “are you sure about this?” “You can back out if you want.” “You don’t seem scared. You okay?” To her credit I’m a cry baby so no one expected me to get it. Long story short, I did better than expected and even made less noise and faces than my mom🤣🤣

I’m getting a really large piece done right now, and when the artist was drawing the tattoo on my body, I ended up puking up my guts and evacuating my organs in the bathroom. It wasn’t my first tattoo, but it was my first large piece. Once the actual tattoo process was started I was completely fine, but the anxiety hit me hard.

These make me feel so much better over my first tattoo- my first tattoo (currently my only but I do plan to get more!) it’s a mushroom.. I got a matching one with my mom, and it’s a decent size, about the palm of my hand, on my forearm. We went my my moms tattoo artist so it wasn’t a complete stranger for my first tattoo and I went first so if I backed out my mom wasn’t getting a random mushroom lmao. Anyways, I got in the chair and he starts, my heart is RACING cause I have really bad anxiety, and once he starts, the pain is annoying as all hell, but that’s it. Personally I didn’t really thing it “hurt” the pain was just like an annoying scratching feeling, and I was like “oh okay I can deal with this as long as I keep talking and focus on other things” my heart rate just like rapidly slowed down cause Al my anxiety went away and I suddenly felt really light headed, I looked at the guy and said “I feel dizzy, I might pass out” (I’ve passed out in the past for unrelated reasons so I know what it feels like what I start to lose consciousness, mainly cause my vision gets blurry and my head feels light and I get pale) and then boom I passed out. Woke up about ten seconds later to my mom holding a cold water bottle to my head and holding me up in the chair, and the guy doing my tattoo kindly waiting for me to wake up. He made sure I was okay and another artist there even offered me some candy so I could get some sugar in me :) one I had some candy and drank some water I felt fine and got the tattoo finished without any more problems haha. I felt super guilty the entire time but he said he appreciated that I was able to warn him. Listening to this video now I know why 😂

Makes me feel better for forgetting to eat before hand & fainting. Never went back for the colour in but it was because I really liked how it looked with just the outline (and it's easier to change my mind and get it filled than it would be to get it filled and then not like it!)

I recently got my first tat. I had been told beforehand that it was going to hurt a lot and that I would cry. When the guy doing my tattoo started, I wad expecting a lot of pain. Surprisingly it barely even hurt at all, probably due to the location. Outside of the slight pain from the initial prick and during shading, it was a pretty relaxing experience. Almost fell asleep during it lmao.

As someone who has to have 2 of the same surgery yes, you put on the mask because you realize there is a time limit. In the case of my surgery the anxiety was about a 2 hour build up. In the case of the actual needle being put in my neck horrifying me, about less than a minute to separate the nerve. I counted ever second the moment I saw that needle because I knew I needed the resolution. I knew it’s be over eventually, every second is just the shortest achievable goal until I blacked out. But that was a surgery, I could only imagine how hours of tattoo work would go for someone who wasn’t prepared for it. (I have 4 tattoos, it hurt but more in an inconveniencing type of way. The surgery I couldn’t pick where it was so I just had to accept it. Though I stopped a quarter of the way through my back tattoo. So I entirely get it. Though there are actual ways to cope through every moment.)

My first tattoo story: My brother has a sleeve & a half, mostly from the same artist. He manages to get me an appointment with the guy. Artist works with me to adjust the size & positioning. Great dude. We talk through most of it. He keeps checking on me, seeing how I am doing. I'm doing fine. I go quiet, which he notices. Him: You ok, man? Me: Yeah, but if you keep hitting that spot I'm going to have to buy you dinner. We didn't talk for the next twenty minutes. Made sure to give him a good tip since I made it awkward.

I remember when I got my first tattoo (I only have one) I got a very simple Friday the 13 tattoo on a fleshy part of my left forearm just below my wrist. My ex was awful. He got a tattoo that should have take about 30 minutes. The whole time he was shaking, sweating, and forgetting to breathe. It ended up taking almost 2 hours. I have 7 tattoos, including one on my ribs, and one on my sternum/ chest. I also have a health condition that makes me prone to fainting. I never fainted for any of my tattoos, however my ex did. My tattoo artist said I was one of his favorite tattoo virgins to work on, because I was half asleep and very relaxed during all my tattoos

Done tattoos for a while now and can confirm it's worth sacrificing a needle to test how the client reacts to pain without ink first and ask them if they think they can handle it. Haven't had bad horror stories so far but a friend of mine is loud as heck when she's in pain and brought a pillow with her to scream into while getting her first tattoo to keep the noise down just in case which I think was a really considerate thing to do. Know your pain tolerance and warn your artist beforehand if you're squeamish, don't try to act tougher than you are, trust me it's better for both of you and will result in a better tattoo. :) If your artist is half decent they'll let you take a break if you need it, don't be shy to ask. I'd rather get you a glass of water and sit for a while to chat than have you faint or puke suddenly. 🧡

I wanted a very small butterfly on the top inside of my left wrist. (if you fold your hand down, the bone that pops up on the inner side not the outer side is the spot). Basically think four small overlapping rings that become the wings and small antannae with dots at the end and a tiny bit of a body at the bottom. about 3/4 inch long, in an outline. I drew it on in ink for six months as was recommended to see if I really liked it, yes I wanted it. This was just as they were mandated to go to disposable needles, so a long time ago... So. I went to the shop, talked about it, showed the guy the art on my wrist. Yeah. We agreed on $20. Should have been just minutes. Well, cleaned, prepped, ink laid, gloves on and fresh needle. I have a thought and point to back of my hand. Before he got going, hit me there. I want to see what it feels like. He barely fires it and it hit my hand four times. I YELPED with my eyes crossed... noped out of it, laid the $20 down and LEFT. Later I found out I chose one of the most tender spots on the body for that 'test'. I still don't have the butterfly. I will admire other's art and ask to see if it's partly covered, and that's where it ended.
@JariDawnchild3 жыл бұрын
Tender spots are definitely a bad idea for testing. It can sometimes take a minute for the endorphins start flowing to numb the pain as well, so while I get the reason for test jabs, it's also not always an accurate picture of the experience. ❤
@user-ml3hl6vr4t3 жыл бұрын
@@JariDawnchild True, but that was what went down for me. I had also decided once my eyes uncrossed, that all the stuff had been set up, opened, wasted, and that it wasn't the artist's fault I was about to warp out of there. They'd done all the setup work so I dropped the $20 on the chair as I got off it. Lot of money then, but. I had just decided after everything else had been done to nope out-that stuff had to be paid for somehow. SO I paid up even though I vacated before it was finished.

My first tattoo was a line of text on the side of my rib cage. Didn't flinch. My second tattoo was a large black and grey portrait on my thigh which I sat through for six hours, only complained and had to take breaks from the pain in the last 30 minutes when my artist added the whites.

I had my first tattoo done about a year ago. Logo of a band on my ankle. Everyone told me to pick a different spot because its a painful place, but it is a matching tattoo with my best friend, so we both wanted it done on the ankle so that if we stand next to each other it would miror. I don't know why people told me it would really hurt. I mean it wasn't pain free, but not more than a scrats. Done in about half an hour. 10\10 would do again

I was getting a large tattoo on my back when one of those MMA Tap Out wearing dudes came in for his first tattoo. He asked me if it hurt to which I said not much. He went into the next cubicle to get started. 5 minutes in I hear him hit the floor after fainting. When he came around he asked why I said it didn't hurt much I explained that pain tolerance is something that differs from person to person and that all pain is relative and that after giving birth to a 10lb baby with no pain relief as labor was so fast that the pain of a tattoo is negligible. He thought that because I was a woman and could handle that type of pain he could too.

My first tattoo wasn't too bad. Slightly light headed so the tattoo artist had me take a break and gave me a small candy bar to get my blood sugar back up. I'd probably get another tattoo from him at some point except I'm pretty sure he's retired now. Especially sad cause the one I want done is actually a modification of that tattoo. Not because it was done badly or totally doesn't represent me anymore, it just needs an update to indicate some new revelations about myself.

As someone with a blood clotting disorder that makes Tattoos risky, I would be the worst client possible. I’ll never try it, but if I did… it’d be a nightmare. I’d definitely have to get a small one that could be done in a few minutes, and the aftercare would be the worst. My blood clotting disorder makes my blood just… not clot? It’s hard to explain, but basically, healing anything is a pain.

My first professional tattoo was a 7 hour full colored piece as a walk in. And the artist was alittle peeved I didn't set an appointment, but I didn't know how getting tats worked at the time. So he kept saying it was a $100 fine if he saw me cry (trying to get his deposit worth, or just messing with me cause for my first it was my whole front half of my forearm) so I took it as a challenge and I stared at him with wide unblinking eyes for the whole process.
