The fact that Oda started One Piece at 17, Luffy started at 17 and Iñaki was 17 and turned 18 a week before the script was posted on the official account and right before he got announced to play Luffy 😭 Something about that number 17. Oda literally watched him audition as a 16 or 17 yo and laughed and said “ITS HIM!” It’s almost like we had to wait for him to turn 17 before the casting and production could start. Whaat

@@Demigod2NE3 It is! I love that they did that since the fandom seems to be somewhat transphobic despite queer characters and since One Piece is LGBTQ+ positive. Although I did notice Coby seemed feminine. I wasn't sure if it was on purpose at first.

@@MaxDCapo I love how they emphasized the "people are what you make of them" mentality of Lufie. I think it's such a true thing. I've seen the worst people become managable members of society when treated correctly by the right people. And I've seen wonderful people be terrible because of how they were treated. If Lufie doesn't inspire you to be a better person to others, I don't know who will.

This luffy was cringe, couldnt stop saying im going to be king of the pirates and im going to find "the" one piece. Also, spouting out one witty one liners like its a stupid marvel movie. @@xGeTOnMyLvL Luffy always keep saying the "i'm gonna be king of the pirates" line in the anime. The way Luffy slapped koby in the live action is the same as when he punched sanji in the whole cake island arc in the anime. When luffy was poisoned with the blue stuff in the syrup village live action episode is the same when he was poisoned by a poisonous fish because of his gluttony and saved by sanji's sister reiji in the anime.

As someone new to One Piece I absolutely loved it. I could definitely feel the anime-ness in the tone and they embraced much of the silliness without it being overbearing. The production design is stellar, you can really see the care that went into the world building in the costumes, props and sets. The performances from Iñeki, Taz and Emily were the highlights for me and really felt distinct and authentic. I didn't feel like things were rushed or missing, if anything the confrontation with Kuro dragged on much longer than it should have. Overall I'm extremely impressed. Bring on season 2!

As someone who never watched one piece and was never going to watch the anime (because its so long) I think this series was amazing! I loved every piece of it and to me it didn't feel rushed at all. I like how every episode had a boss fight and how they kept finding a new crew member. Yes it was a bit unlikely and silly but the whole show was like that so to me it only made sense. Also my favourite character was Kobi, idk why he's just so cute! I'm glad they made space for his story line. To me it seemed like Kobi was kind of like a second main character and he and luffy are 2 sides of the same coin. I hope this set design, the colours and the costumes will inspire other shows be a bit more crazy and over the top because I loved that.

What i took away from the live action being good is that it can also stand side by side with the anime/manga as just another means of telling this wonderful story with these memorable characters. Believe it or not, not everyone likes anime/manga and for those new or unfamiliar to the material now have the live action to ease them into this world of One Piece and potentially get them interested in the medium that we love. Yes we can knit pick the live action for what was changed or added and fans will argue about it till the end of time but can we all agree that with the live action being as good as it is for old & newcomers alike it can only help elevate One Piece to even greater heights. This is one of Oda-san's wishes before he retires & how can we as fans deny him that honor. It just sucks that with the writers strike the green light for a second season won't come to fruition for a very long time.

The only thing I wish they can change for the next seasons is the K.O panels at the end of fights in the manga/anime. It always felt good when the characters gives the final blow and there's a panel to show the K.O'd faces of the enemy. In the Live Action, they don't actually show the antagonists fainted so it was kind of like "is the fight even over?" situation. The only time they did was showing Chou burnt to a crisp, even then they didn't focus on the face and it was a long distance camera shot. Other than that, I really had no complains!

In regards to Nojiko, did Nami lie to her for the whole duration in which she was getting the 100million Berries in the Anime/Manga? Because I can't see how Nojiko could be supportive of her if she believed that Nami this whole time was just being selfish, and siding with Arlong this whole time, the person that killed their mother and enslaved their village. Nojiko was actually very supportive of her after she explained everything (within reason of course) Also in the anime/manga, was it made more apparent why Nami kept everyone in the dark? I get that she wanted to protect them "everyone who becomes close to me gets hurt" but I feel like it was quite the risk to have her entire village hate her for potentially decades.

I didn't feel like they changed Nojiko's personality. They changed the context and what she knew and didn't know about Nami. Since Nojiko did not know why Nami joined up with Arlong or the deal she made, never saw her, never talked to her, there was nothing for her to support. So, like, this Nojiko would have been supportive of Nami too, if she knew the truth, but Nami didn't tell her, so Nojiko had to assume the worst.

7/10 Liked it but didn't love it. Helmeppo, Zoro, and Zeff were my favorite characters. Sets and costumes looked great. Two of the biggest problems I had were the cinematography and pacing. A lot of the shots were really cool, but there were way too many wide-angle close-up shots on faces. Also, the shallow depth of field used throughout made it look like they were trying to hide the background and/or CG. Pacing was the other big issue for me. As a fan of the anime, I know all of the characters and stories, but it's hard to see how a complete One Piece noob could get into the live action

It is definitely good and the best Anime LA till date but I will keep saying that they fked up Nami, Garp and all of Arlong Park in this adaptation. They needed to put all their effort on Arlong Park as this was THE ARC of the East Blue Saga yet for some reason they did the least effort for it. Changing major characters like Nami, Nojiko and Genzo's character was a BIG mistake. It took away any emotional moments it was supposed to display. To a lesser extent even Sanji, Usopp, and Luffy were ruined. Like Sanji not getting to see Zoro fight Mihawk which ultimately made him decide to join Luffy, Usopp being pretty much useless in his own arc, And Luffy being hella nerfed to the point you'd assume Zoro is the strongest. The list of criticism goes on and on. But despite all that, I would still say it's a pretty good adaptation. Could it have been better? DEFINITELY...But I'm just happy that they didn't completely fk it up knowing Netflix's track record. All that being said. I can't wait for season 2. I hope they do better next time and not pressure a shy, passive mangaka like Oda to make changes like they did with this season. For those of you that aren't aware. Oda is not the biggest fan of the changes they made here. He was peer pressured into agreeing with the writers. Don't believe people saying that this is a 100% Oda's vision. It's not. There were quite a few things even Oda was taken back by. But it was too late for him to make any changes since it was already performed and done. So Oda just went with it. Hence why Oda's message about its potential of being not that good. Anywho, let's hope they give Oda a lot more creative freedom in season 2. In fact they should let Oda do the script. Letting ppl like Matt and Steven do the writing isn't the best.

They’ve already shown they can change things up effectively with the Garp integration in this early saga. I’m sure they work very closely with Oda on this change too, they pretty much emphasize on this in all of their behind the scenes how much they work together with Oda. I’m sure they’ve already cooked up something for Hachi role in the future when we hopefully have more episodes and budgets

There is a fishman with blue/yellow spikey hair at the card table in Arlong Park in the LA. Apparently this is Hachi, but only named in the credits of the episode. I'm hoping they actually go into depth with his character if we get a Sabaody Arc in the LA. Also I started going back and rewatching the season to see what I missed the first time. It looks like they atleast have an easter egg of Jango on the Bounty Board in Episode 1 which I found interesting.

3:15 I can understand thinking there might be some greed or whatever, HOWEVER, this is Oda. A Japanese person. Not some American or Westerner. Asians usually have more and better values.

@@mnplumberman I'm sure there are, but they're not very common. Cause like I said, Asians are usually raised differently than Westerners.

I had never read 'One Piece' manga or watch an anime, but this show is absolutely great for me!

Nice to know they really put in effort to film this, but still a lot of disappointment for a hard-core fan like me who watched the manga before the anime since day one.I feel like maybe it's the culture difference since I'm chinese in singapore so I get the Japanese culture, but the nakama feel is not there my pov.All in all it's watchable and gives me goosebumps at certain scenes.

I enjoyed it, but do think it is getting over hyped because people want it to be good. 6/10 IMO, and 5/10 if I had no Idea what One Piece was before I watched it. I do think part of the problem was having to cram in so much backstory/character development into 8 episodes.

I know this adaptation is not perfect but I have to say they did do somethings better than the anime.

OP fans really cover up for anything OP. . yes its OP cool but it wasnt good unless youre a die hard fan. Which creates a false idea about live actions. anime shouldnt be made live action if it needs a lot of CG and goofy makeup.
