I love how this game doesn't have a set meta. Like legitimately there's so many creative ways to stack. Currently I'm running certus and calandis. Next to Thaddeus noble so they get damage boosts from his heavy weapons buff. Tigurrius to give the defense buffs. And ancient thoread for his mega armor buff to teammates and gives anyone near final vengeance. Plus noble has the artillery strike. The level cap forces people to be smart or lose. I love it. I love bringing in a character or two every match that isn't meta. With the update to the black templar armor I've loved ancient thoread.

The game has no meta yet. Everyone runs calandis and a lot of people run Aleph-null and/or archimados. Because these characters are busted as hell. Noble is busted too because the meta is to just sit around like a fucking chunk of shit in a death ball waiting for someone to get near you so you can first strike half their team. I bet I've seen any one of those 3 like 30 times more than I've seen Incisus, angrax, or maladus. Hell I've seen far rarer characters more than I've seen those. Because this game isn't balanced well, just like table top warhammer. Whoever hits first basically wins.

Im really curious how would you play with an all necron team? 🤔 They are fairly tricky to use.

No one would do that. Because this game isn't balanced. Even though Necron have two of the better characters in the game. It's not like the regeneration or healing matters. Everything dies so quickly in this. If you just give a bunch of glass cannons they're ultimates from the start it's simply a matter of whoever hits first, most of the time

A bunch of snipers and range? No surprise. None at all. What surprises me less, that or Makhotep and a bunch of summoners? Or how about the 50/50? Two snipers and two summoners. Maybe I'll actually be impressed if you use Incisus. * Oh just beat someone who was using that exact team. Not you, of course. But my question is why was it a challenge? All they did was pretty much just sit there. Why should it be a challenge as I slowly advance trying to get them to move forward. to fucking move! Sending my guys into the barbed wire to make them look really vulnerable and stranded against my entirely melee army. Because getting to the points first doesn't mean shit. I've had some battles where both players just stare at each other, because the first one to move towards their opponent gets blown up and loses. There should be some kind of attackers advantage, some incentive to move out there. But there's only a first turn disadvantage, which turns into an advantage when you have a team full of long range bullshit. God I hope tau don't play like that. but they will.

Agreed, I don't find the Tournament Arena fun at all. Someone in a comment section somewhere (Facebook maybe?) suggested that it would be better if each turn you only got to act with one character, then the opponent could use one character, instead of the whole team at once. More like chess. Maybe that would improve it and add some strategy or challenge to it.

It sucks so had that calandis, probably the best tournament hero, is just unavailable if you happened to start playing too late. Just makes me not want to play at all when basically my whole strategy has to be around countering calandis. Last tournament I got maybe a 70%WR just by doing that. Well maybe I'll be back in a couple days when that frustrating tournament button is no longer there.

I mean. This game has a ton of ways to counter calandis not just avoid. It's still early so any notion of "meta" is lazy. Aside from already using a high tank base of character the update heavy armor buffed black templars and death guard. And all of them have passive and actives that stack buffs on each other. You can armor buff stack to were calandis isn't even that dangerous.

@@BloodBuffalo I mean I have no problems countering calandis, as my comment stated, it's just not fun that I'm forced to counter something I have no way of acquiring myself. And playing BT or DG because they can tank calandis is adjusting strategy to counter one character. And I agree there isn't one settled meta but one character certainly is in almost much every single tournament game I play.

@@nichfra well not to worry. It's 40k there's over 400 novels. Over a hundred space marine chapters alone and that's just space Marines in the imperium. They keep dropping characters and soon enough all the ones people are bummed they don't have now will be far from your concern.

@@BloodBuffalo the question is will I still be playing? Because even after dropping a couple hundred bucks on the game the tournament is annoying me enough that I won't be playing at least for the next couple days. On a more abstract level I'm wondering: Is there some marketing research that says people are actually more likely to keep playing (and paying for) your game when they can't get some of the content and am I just an aberration or did the makers really not think this through? In the end it's all just some venting because the game is really fun but this is sucking a lot of enjoyment out of it for me personally.

@@nichfra I think the real question is are you a warhammer40k fan prior? Cause that's A LOT of money to drop this early in a game with virtually none of the extremely popular 40k factions introduced yet. The developers are fans and have been pretty open through development what to expect. And are always quick to listen to the community. It never feels like a cash grab. Anytime there's bugs or whatever they've given a bunch of free stuff. I play blood angels. I'm not spending money til I see blood angels, raven guard, white scars or kriegsman.
