Fun fact: Until it got its new forms, Tauros was essentially only Gen 1 Pokemon to never get a prevolution, evolution, mega evolution, alternate form or dynamax form. Technically Ditto also counts and holds onto that title today, but it's a gimmick that literally transforms into other Pokemon so Tauros really holds the crown for being the most neglected Gen 1 'Mon, and the last one to get anything special for it.

Honestly Paldean Tauros was so close to fixing him and making him actually OU viable again. The only problem is that they removed the 2 things that actually let Tauros have the smallest bit of a niche it did: Sheer Force and base 110 speed Tauros actually did have pretty alright damage with sheer force, it just didn’t have a consistently good method of hitting ghost types and ground neutral/immune steel types. It’s speed tier was also genuinely good; even in gen 9 it’s pretty good since it can at worst speed tie with mons as fast as Iron Moth But Paldean Tauros doesn’t get Sheer Force, it gets *Cud Chew*. And Paldean Tauros isn’t a speed demon, it’s only one of the many base 100 mons out there. It’s speed tier is practically worthless in OU, and it’s abilities give it nothing worthwhile. This is all the more sad because Fighting/Water and Fighting/Fire are actually both good STAB combos that would do well in OU if it had Sheer Force and a movepool to back it ip

They could have made a tauros regional variant where tauros had a colorful matador style coat of fur. The alpha form could have included something along the lines of its tails covered with a flowing matador's cape and its horns partially covered in fur like the matador's blades.

Waiting for the opponent to select another Pokémon to send out after being knocked out by a recharge move SHOULD count as the recharge time. It makes sense that the Pokémon that used the move would have enough time for a brief rest during this period. At the same time, maybe have the recharge still happen if the opponent protects it to help balance this out. Just a quick idea on the last part, may make things worse idk

I captured the tauros and Scyther for the extreme damage in Gen 1 but... I will never forget my 1st time beating the league with my 80+ lvl gyarados with all attack made for them. There WAS a ROMhack I played once that had a similar Ability, and called it Vigor. 20% buff to the user's moves of 120 BP or higher, and took away the recharge turn of moves that have them if they got a kill with it.

Am I exaggerating if I say that Tauros has the best sp. attack move pool in the game excluding legendaries? Just look at it: ice beam, blizzard, solar beam, thunderbolt, thunder, flamethrower, fire blast, surf... shadow ball!? They even expanded the ridiculous move pool in gen IX by giving it hydro pump. Hydro pump!? Combine this with a sp. attack that is lower than that Gyarados and even Rhydon, you get a big what if.

Its a shame for Tauros. I only ever used it in Y for the Battle Mason's Triple Battle Strategy. I had a Tauros with Max HP & Speed with the ability Anger Point. Gave him Chesto Berry, Rest, Zen Headbutt, Earthquake and i forgot the other moves. His teammates were a Flying Type and another Pokemon with Telepathy to take 0 damage from Earthquake. I miss the bull

The funny thing is that Paldean Tauros was actually a pretty great Pokemon in VGC until people figured out how to use Flutter Mane to wreck everything. The super Pokemon thing they've been doing since Gen 7, arguably gen 6 if you include Megas, but I don't, has really thrown off the balance of the games. Regieleki is ridiculous, the Ultra Beasts were ridiculous, the paradox Pokemon are ridiculous and now Pokemon are getting dual abilities too and that's ridiculous-er.

It's a little unfair because Gamefreak repeatedly did throw Tauros a bone, Intimidate is repeatedly one of the best abilities around. Kept getting decent moves to work with from gen to gen. He just failed to be broken. Tell you what though, a banded STAB 140bp retaliate from a Tauros is a sight to behold.

I think False swipe gaming made a video about this, but basically the in the end the player base realized that having higher defenses with golem was not worth it because of it being mostly incapable of inflicting much damage outside of exploding, and suicide kinda defeats the purpose of being a wall, so most of the player base to this day mostly only uses Rydon
