Greg, I carried S&W revolvers for ages on the street as a peace officer. And I was a professional gunsmith for years as well. I bet my life on mine in three shootings as well. That said, today, I carry a Taurus 856UL Defender 3". And I'd bet my life on it as well. The quality of that weapon is very good. I've been inside this weapon, and performed my own action work on it. It's as smooth as the S&W model 65-3 4" I recently bought that was an issue weapons from my old P.D., another weapon I'd carry without hesitation. Taurus has really been stepping up their game, and building great weapons. As to screws backing out, I learned long ago to tighten screws every time I clean my weapons. This was taught to me by my great uncle, who carried an 1882 Colt SAA. It's common sense weapon maintenance. Its those that don't practice this that gripe about screws falling out after shooting hundreds of rounds before cleaning. If they clean AND tighten screws after EVERY shooting session, it would not be an issue. But I kept screws in inventory in my shop just for those who didn't follow this practice. Bottom line, I'm proud of you for presenting this experience with this model Taurus, and demonstrating it's excellent quality. You're a genuine asset to us all.👍

Taurus has really come a long way in terms of quality control with their revolvers. They can now pretty much compete with S&W, Ruger and Colt on a level playing field. Colt and S&W is a little pricey right now.

First off, I want to say thank you for taking the time to review the executive series. You’ve helped satisfy my curiosity as far as the quality of the pistol. Second, I have owned four or five different Taurus pistols, both revolvers and semi autos over the last, couple of decades. I have also owned Glocks, Brownings, and other “higher end” pistols. I have never had a problem with the Taurus product. As a matter of fact. I have never had to send one of them back to the factory for work or repair. I have a G3 C, which I have almost 1000 rounds through and I’ve had one stove pipe out of all those rounds. I believe the reason I had it was my fault, not the pistols fault. I have still not seen the executive series on the shelf anywhere yet, but when I do, I am going to purchase it.

Greg, you mentioned somebody who was already having trouble with their S&W Ultimate Carry? Less than two weeks ago, a customer came into the local gun store. He recently purchased a 32 UC. The revolver was already experiencing light primer strikes and possibly some other problem. He contacted Smith. As far as i know, he's sending it in. I'll say this...The beveled cylinder was nice, the sights seemed pretty good, and the VZ boot grip (specially made for the UC) needs to be offered on their website for the general public to purchase.

I wouldn't mind having that grip on my 642. I don't know that I'll ever come off the hip for the UC. I'd probably go for the airweight Kimber first.

Their service is the best and that's my experience. When I bought a used model 686 no dash made in 1984 from a pawn shop and Smith paid for shipping both ways and did the "M" upgrade/modification upgrade at no charge 28 years after the gun was made and during the Shield 1.0 recall? Let's say that made a lasting impression on me. Does it excuse canted barrels and the abysmal anesthetic abomination that are Hillary holes and MIM parts with two piece barrels tossed on top? Nope. But that CS while maybe not "perfect" in all respects, ain't the worst either.

I have only had a cylinder yoke screw back out once, on a newer 82. I had to order a replacement yoke assembly because the tiny spring on the original broke. The replacement worked fine, but opening the cylinder got really tight. Since then, as you mentioned, I always keep an eye on the cylinder screw in particular. I've shot my Taurus 327 a fair amount, by my standards, since getting it and all the screws on it are still tight. You're right about modern QC. I have heard the same from people who got the new UC J-Frames. My recent 586 "Classic" I had, which I got rid of because I did not like it (turns out I don't like L-Frames at all), had an issue with the cylinder binding a bit and not always opening when you push the cylinder release.

Thank you very much for this video. It's interesting to know that the executive is a good revolver and that it may be an alternative to recent S&W revolvers who do not keep the quality of older ones. Where I live, the 856 TORO is available. But it doesn't seem that the executive is.

I'm just over 1400 rounds through my Tracker now; 0 problems whatsoever... Half .38 Spl/half .357 Mag. It's porting cuts down on the problems associated with extended shooting, I think... Still, I can tell it's no S&W or Ruger; it has much looser lockup - and kind of a pot metal cylinder (seemingly).

👍👍 Thanks Greg. I know this is off subject but I bought a Rossi r92 in 357 and it looks and shoots good. The problem is when you load ammo in the magazine and then try to work the lever and load it the first cartridge is sitting at an angle and won’t load unless you stick your finger in from top and straighten it out. After that it works fine until you load the magazine again. Any ideas what would cause that.

Thanks Greg! A great series of videos on that Taurus Executive. It is nice and a good deal for the money, but it can't hold a candle to that S&W Model 64. I think the older guns are just better made regardless of the brand. I see another used S&W in my future. I am currently carrying a Taurus 605 that I bought about 2 years ago on your recommendation. Still no problems with it. Shot a Copperhead with it while bush hogging (or "brush hogging" depending on where you're from) last season. Just getting ready to cut that field back for the first time this season and it will be on my hip again. Shoots right to point of aim and I'm not beating up my beloved S&W 640.

Very unfortunately for S&W. I've got older examples of their workmanship I'd put up against many modern revolvers and these were stock guns intended for the common use and sale. Today it is all about high price boutique revolvers that may or may not have issues or poor QC.

I’ve had nothing but JUNK from Taurus. I had two revolvers last year sent to my ffl and both of them were out of time. It would get to one of the chambers and lock up. So either that star on the back of the cylinder was not made right or the locking notch in the cylinder was not machines in the correct spot. You do what you want, but they are making JUNK in my opinion. I can buy cheaper revolvers that never jam. Plus if you needed work done on one, there is a 2 year wait time. That tells you how many have been returned because they DO NOT WORK.
