Taurus GX2 - Light Primer Strike?

Here's a quick video shooting the Taurus GX2. There was a light primer strike using 115 grain Fiocchi Range Dynamics ammo.

Based on your very good comprehensive reviews, I ordered mine today. I have 5 other Taurus firearms and have not had any problems (except break-in issues with my TH9 -steel case ammo). I’m excited about the new GX2 but was waiting to see some reviews. Thanks you made my decision easy! PS After about 100 rounds, I’ve never had any other FTL issues with my TH9.😊

I just picked one up at Academy for $258.00 and took it out on my range here on the farm. so far, easier to shoot than my Sig P365 and my Hellcat. I am very impressed with how easy and flat it shoots!! I think this little bad boy is a heck of a value for the money, going to drill down on hitting 1,000 rounds this weekend!! Thanks for your honest and real reviews!! PS, I have had a few light primers with Fiocchi in the past, in both the Sig and the Hellcat along with my Gock 19...😎👍

The GX2 is my 4th Taurus... First one was a G2C, still my desk gun. Second was GX4, great pistol, pinched my trigger finger, so traded it. Third G3, just wanted it. GX2 is my latest Taurus. Only got about 100 rounds through it... Great gun. After i get to 500 rounds, I'll decide whether to put it in my rotation. So far it shoots great.

I own a G2c with over 4500 rds in it, a G3C with about 500, A G3 with about 500 though it and A GX4 Carry with several hundred rds in it. I did have 5 light primer strikes with the GX4 but those rounds would not fire in my Glock 19 or my Kimber 1911. It was some really cheap ammo I tried buying in bulk during covid. I like shooting all my Taurus pistols. The grip angle is more like a Smith and Wesson and do enjoy that more so than the Glock grip.

Glad to hear that you're okay with a heavier trigger pull on a carry gun. I hate it when people complain about a trigger because it's too heavy, say 5-6 lbs. Nobody needs or a 2-3 lb trigger pull on a self-defense pistol. It just needs to be consistent. This isnt a target pistol.

Inconsistent triggers are the only triggers I complain about!!!!! It drives me crazy.

Could be out of tolerance round with some dirty gun added. You seem to be shooting it well, Nick. Even shooting outside, ear plugs together with over ear protection makes it more pleasant. A must-have indoors.

So you mentioned that Taurus will help people if they have a problem with the gun. I just saw a video today of someone not being able to get a peep out of Taurus CS, and they simply wanted to find out when their gun was manufactured. Taurus is trying to do better for sure, but I would not hang your hat on a Taurus unless you've taken the time to thoroughly vet that individual firearm. Some gun companies you can expect that as long as the gun makes it through the first 200-500rds it's good to go, and some companies you need to shoot a lil more. Shot 2000rds of Fiocchi Range Dynamics last year, it was great ammo in my opinion. Bit spicy, bit flashy in low light, but I didn't have a single failure (P365XL build).

My comments on Taurus helping are based off of comments on the last video. I think Fiocchi makes great range ammo - the comment section in the past has not agreed with that thought process.

Nothing wrong with Taurus. Had a G2C shot it all the time. Had 1000s of rounds through it. My recoil spring finally broke. Overlapped itself on the coils $38 part and 2 days later was back up and running fine. I have tons of guns of every brand those guns fire just fine. Been thinking about picking on of the 2X we just got them in the store a few weeks ago feels really good in the hands. I’ll keep watching see how well it lasts.

The plastic recoil spring does seem a little flimsy but it’s an easy fix and should be replaced every couple of thousand cycles anyways.

Ok, so when instructors say that Taurus is one of the most common pistols they see fail in class, we should ignore that? Some people get lucky, and some people end up back at the gun store asking why their cheap gun shit the bed and why Taurus won't respond to them. Taurus CAN make a good gun, but anyone buying a Taurus should budget in about 1000rds and pray that it performs. I say 1000, because there's a video of Honest Outlaw shooting a Turkish gun that got progressively worse as it approached 1000rds.

@@Osprey1994 I have a few Taurus guns in my collection and the G2C was the only one that ended up having an issue. I have a PT92 I have had since the early 90s still fires today no issues. Most failures I’ve seen out of fire arms is usually ammo or operator error and I take zero advise from some guntuber. I watch and make my own decisions. You can hate on them all you want I don’t care 🤷‍♀️

I have been looking at this firearm. Not normally my thing but for the price and all, it may be worth it. As for the "light" strick, I have had a number of issues with Fiocchi Range Dynamics in the past could be the ammo and not the firearm. Fiocchi has had issues with hard primers before.

You cannot compare dents on shot and unshot primer. When you shot, there is pressure of gases pushing case onto firing pin, therefore dent will be deeper.But my bad experience with G3 says, there can be already enough brass shavings inside of striker channel to cause light primer strikes. You know...Taurus :(

i have had some issues with the Fiocchi also , nice run though , the speed fire ran nice, one of these will not worry me too much

My guess is the ammo is the cause of the malfunction. If you have any more issues, maybe you can change to another brand and see what happens.

If we have more issues I’d assume it’s the gun. One hard primer out of thousand isn’t a major concern with cheap ammo.

My last 1000 124 grain Fiochii had 3 rounds that would not fire, tried em in a glockn19,Glock 43X, and HK P30, def ammo, it’s why I use for range but won’t carry their HP.s

Many possibilities but if it is only one round thus far I wouldn’t worry yet. I am not sold on it yet but I can get it for cheap so I may get it just to play with. The wetter it is, the dirtier it gets? Damn, I will leave that one alone.

100% think the light primer was ammo related and not the gun. Especially since that's your primary ammo that you use, and you've had experiences in large batches with hard primers and light hits.

There’s nothing wrong with the P365 but I think this was probably an ammo situation. Time will tell.

@@averagemarksmani will check the brass every so often , if the strikes look good i think do not worry about it, you can just throw down a tarp to catch the brass very inexpensively , it may not get all of it but it will get a bunch for you, you should always do this with your rifles as well to just spot check the brass, it will tell you if there are problems

Are you planning on running some different brand ammo through it to see if it will eat what you put through it. I.e crappie ammo , quality ammo, self-defense ammo. That’s what I do with all my guns for reliability factor. If that pistol is anything like my TX22 it should ear whatever you feel it.

I am - Fiocchi is the easiest ammo to source locally so I plan to run the first 900 rounds through it. Then we will run 100 rounds of defensive ammo through the gun.

With a Taurus it won't be the only malfunction. After several years in retail firearms & instruction, I've learned that Taurus is known for two things - spotty quality control & terrible warranty repair. Their revolvers are also famous....for locking up. They are lower priced for a reason. I have six Glocks. I stopped counting after 18,000 rounds, including my handloads; no malfunctions. Sig P220ST - 1,800 rounds, no malfunctions. Wilson CQB - 6,800 rounds, no malfunctions. But....Taurus is a bit cheaper.....
