I've got a lil over 500 rds thru my GX4 and I had no issues whatsoever until I used Winchester (white box 115 grain) ammo. I shot another 100 rds of Stella after that range trip (no malfunctions) and I believe at this point it was the ammo. I've never had an issue with HP thru it. I will continue to run it, as it's in my rotation and will keep a close eye on all of this...

OK I gotta give my two cents…. I purchased a GX4 Toro online on November 24 and received it after the background check and everything about 13 days later. When I first got it, the thing wouldn’t go into battery by itself. There are machine marks on the slide along the channel where the extractor runs which rubbed on the extractor. I initially thought it was just a breaking issue so I started racking the slide back-and-forth until it loosened up. The action of racking the slide back-and-forth until it loosened up wore down the top of the extractor, and change the geometry of the extractor. Additionally, the barrel bore was not in the center of the cylinder and there were burs on the end protruding from the crown, indicating they cut the rifling after they machine the crown… The third thing wrong was the trigger, which maxed out my wheeler trigger gauge, the trigger was well over 9 pounds. And the last thing, and this is a minor compared to the other problems I had, but there was a big scratch on the frame. I have shipped it back to Taurus requesting they swap it out for a new gun which should match the quality of the ones they sent to the KZbin reviewers. I’m waiting to get the gun back. This is my first Taurus and I am obviously not impressed and given my experience, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing another in the future.

I bought my GX4 during winter sale for $261 out the door with military discount. Taurus had a $50 rebate, and I sent information to company. Awaiting my rebate check, which will bring total cost before I invested in sights and holster of $211. Throw cost of those two items and +2 magazine extensions, and I’m into this beautiful pistol for $285. Yes, I’ve read and seen reviews that we’re both positive and negative about the GX4, but my experience with Taurus and the TX22 I purchased earlier in 2022 swayed me to buy one. I am not disappointed in my decision at all. I’ve shot 350+ rounds through my GX4 (ball, JHP and steel case). Eats everything. Agree about the OEM sights; they’re adequate, but I swapped them out for Tru Glo fiber optic sights (red front sight, green rear sight). Only problem I’ve had since owning was I didn’t torque down front sight enough, so it came loose after about 100 rounds fired. Reinstalled front sight after range session/cleaning, paying attention to adding blue loctite and torquing down front sight screw. It’s reliable, the trigger is consistent and heavy enough for EDC self-defense use, and even with 13 round magazines easily concealed in a Concealment Express kydex holster with claw attachment. If you’re getting the impression that I’m a convert you’d be right.

I bought a GX4 brand new and I have no problem with the way it shoots. No failure's what so ever. I do have a problem with the mag release as it has such a wimpy spring that if you just touch it the gun pukes out the mag. Doesn't make any difference weather it in a holster or pocket carry it pukes out the mag! I bought a Lakeland Aluminum mag release and it helped a little but it didn't completely solve the problem. I think i'm going to let my son have it for a nightstand gun and just buy a Springfield Hellcat or Sig SAS for my everyday carry. The wife really likes the Hellcat I bought her for an off duty weapon.

Far as grip texture it is of course debatable. In any case on a polymer gun it is easy to reduce it. The color goes all the way through. I use slip stones- stick sharpening stones. They are common and cheap. You simply run the stones over the texture and it quickly knocks the sharp points off. Do it slow because it is not reversible.

I just purchased my first gun - a GX4 GL same gun but the barrel is slightly longer. My question is about the slide release, it is extremely difficult to release. It definitely is not as easy as you make it in the video. Is there something I’m missing ? Thanks for the help.
@ReviewThisThing Жыл бұрын
This may seem like a dumb question, but what’s the scenario when you’re trying to use it? Magazine in/out?
@-What-are-your-thoughts Жыл бұрын
@@ReviewThisThing …with the clip in.
@ReviewThisThing Жыл бұрын
So, if you pull the slide back and try to use the release with an empty mag in, it basically won’t work. If the mag is empty, drop the mag, and then the release should be easy. If the mag is loaded, it shouldn’t be as bad. If it is, just pull straight back on the slide and let go. That works, too. (Finger off the trigger!)

Nice review. Mine has been pretty good so far. A few little issues that don’t effect everyday reliability but nonetheless issues that I need to call Taurus about. I am approaching 600 rounds through mine and it’s still extremely difficult to get rounds 9 and 10 into the magazines. Also, you can’t baby it when loading a round into the chamber. You have to either use the slide catch/release, and even then sometimes hit the back of the slide, or you have to slingshot that baby good. I haven’t had any FTF’s or stovepipes so no real issue but worth noting I suppose. The feed ramp wear is off center and it’s not the prettiest of machining and it’s a steep feed ramp; despite those factors, and the fact she will “ftf” when loading a mag if you baby her at all, she still runs well and reliably. Another odd issue is that sometimes after firing all the rounds in a magazine, and the magazine locks back like normal, it will stay locked back when the mag is removed, like normal, however, sometimes when a new fully loaded mag is inserted the slide releases “itself.” What I mean is that as soon as the slide goes in, boom, slide goes forward and I’ve made sure my hand was no where near slide or slide catch. Also, it doesn’t always happen and will only happen after firing actual ammo. I haven’t replicated the issue just inserting full mags into a slide I locked back; it has to be a slide that got locked back by finishing off a magazine. Not the end of the world but I like to get that ironed out. Lastly, and this is weird and I did see this on some other KZbin videos about the trigger getting stuck. Note I am not sure this is an issue since I haven’t replicate the issue nor tried with live rounds. In fact I did not go looking for any issue, it just happened, and then I searched for it and saw others affected to. What happens on my GX4 is that if I dry fire with my right trigger finger really far onto the trigger, like between the 1st and 2nd knuckle on my finger, it puts right sided pressure/torque on the trigger and if you pull during this same time, it will lock it up. I don’t know, it’s a weird issue…My finger would never be on the trigger that way since I’m always using a lot less finger and always pulling straight back. It was weird how I found out; I was racking the slide with mag in and dry firing and releasing slightly one handed to dry fire again. Each time with one finger. Anyhow, that prolly doesn’t make sense but now I can replicate issue. Prolly not a big deal, since if the trigger is pulled straight back this cannot happen. However, I suppose under duress, if pulled with my right finger, and pushed to the right simultaneously; then I could end up with a locked up dead trigger maybe. Honestly, not 100% sure. I definitely would like Taurus’ gunsmith to have a peek. Bought it to replace my Ruger EC9s as my EDC; we’re just not there with reliable functioning for my EDC trust. It’s shot pretty much everything, but it’s all those little other bugs that haven’t bothered other EDC options. I’m sure Taurus will take care of it.
@ReviewThisThing Жыл бұрын
Thank you for all of that. Hopefully Taurus will help you out with those few things!

Its normal for the slide to “go home “ when inserting a full mag … actually a great thing To loosen up the mags … load each of them and leave them loaded .. when not in use … that will help the springs “ settle”

@@ReviewThisThing I don't know if he will reply to you or not but I am here to tell you I have purchased several Taurus products. When they work they work good. When they do not work and you have to use customer service it is almost a nightmare. It takes some time 6 months for them to fix something. You have to mail back your firearm and there is no tracking so you pretty much lose it for 6 months and you have no idea what happens to it and then one day it just shows back up at your house again. Not a very good experience. It's definitely worth a little bit more money to buy something from a company with better customer service. That's my take.
