I have the Public Defender model in steel. I found some awesome grips for it. Pachmayr Diamond Pro Grip for Taurus Compact Public Defender for steet PD (18.00 USD). I bought them at Amazon and at the time you can also get them that are made for the Poly like yours. These grips make the PD feel great and fill you hand nicely. Check them out. Nice video by the way, thanks.

Also, the Hogue monogrip for tracker/judge will work for a full size grip. Only thing is u have to get a longer grip screw. M4 .7x 40mm. If it's longer than 40mm the hammer will not operate because when u pull it, it will hit the end of the screw on the inside of the grip. Other than that, it will give u a full grip and a better handle on it.

Hornady calls the 4-10 Tripple Defense. A slug and two balls, in fact the upper ball fits in a recess in the slug and drives the slug to expand it in the rifling. Pachmayr makes a neat grip.

I think the reason Taurus made it a 5 shot and not a 6, is because it makes it slimmer. Right now it is a decent option for concealment but if it was a 6 like the Governer, it would probably too wide for most people.

Have nothing to do here in Afghanistan but work, work out and stalk gun sales... Having said that, wife just picked this up in Academy for $399. Now just have to wait to go home and shoot it :). Kind of disappointed that it did not come with the 2 grips that her previous Public Defender did, and it came with some funky front sight cover (cool but not needed). Will definitely upgrade the grip but seems like a well built version and looking forward to it! Great review and keep it up!!

Can anyone help out a former firearms instructor on HOW one colorizes the indented areas of the pistol? I have just purchased the dark earth polymer, mostly based upon this channel (thank you!) and I like his colorization ideas, but wondering what is used to hold up to the firing shock and wear which naturally occurs with a gun? I want to thank him for his ammunition recommendation and his testing different rounds as well, for what he has recommended makes so much sense and I am excited to give it a shot, no pun intended of course.... :)
@yankeecowboy Жыл бұрын
I did a video on how to color fill those areas. Just use acrylic paint because it applies easy and can wash out if you choose to change it

I enjoy your videos, and especially appreciated your comments on this Taurus Public Pefender. My wife and I are thinking about getting one of these, or the Judge itself, as a snake gun around our property, and for home defense. Have you shot the Judge so you can do a comparison? It seems to me that the greater weight on a steel frame might lessen the recoil, and a longer chamber (e.g. 3") in would allow for shooting longer shells. Which one of these Taurus revolvers to buy is a hard decision! Any thoughts?
@yankeecowboy6 жыл бұрын
Tim Sawyer thanks Tim, I'm not very sensitive to recoil regardless the caliber but I have shot the steel version and I prefer the poly because I do carry it. I don't think you can go wrong with either but if your wife is going to use it you may want the poly for the lighter weight. Hope my 2 cents helps. Feel free to ask any questions
@yankeecowboy6 жыл бұрын
Also the chamber length really don't come into play unless it's 6 or more inches. Most people don't realize you lose so much from it escaping from the cylinder on a revolver.
@timsawyer74436 жыл бұрын
1yankeecowboy thanks for the prompt reply! At 6' 1", my wife is definitely not "manly", but she's not a little prissy thing either. The weight issue is not as big as the recoil issue for her. We shot 410 out of my sister's polly Public Defender, and my wife really disliked the recoil. I can't get my hands on a steel Judge of any kind to actually shoot and get a feel for, so I can't make a decent comparison. :-( Thanks again for the insights, and if you have any additional comments, all are appreciated!

@VBH88883 жыл бұрын
I would love to this someone finally test the 410 rounds on a moving target. people always say ohh spread pattern sucks, well your target isn't standing still either. The main reason why the spread is effective is to increase hit probability.

There are a lot of people who view the Taurus Judge and S&W Governor as gimmick guns, I did as well but bought one for the fun of it. While I dismiss it as a carry gun because of it's size, in my opinion it is not a gimmick. Shooting Nobel Sport 3 ball .40 buck it will shoot about an 8 inch 5 shot group at 7yds. That's 15 .40 cal holes in an eight inch area in five shots. I'm no expert, and am not claiming this is what you should shoot, but shooting it and finding ammo that it liked, proved to me it has it's place.
@yankeecowboy5 жыл бұрын
It's one of those misunderstood firearms until you find it does in fact work. As for carry when you find the right ammo I have no issues with carry

you infer that birdshot isnt very effective, but ive found it to be very. I have a public defender as a camp gun/backpack gun. I load one 4 shot from federal, two triple defense and two 45 colt. I have shot this gun a lot, and for practical usage, i have used the birdshot(4shot) the most by far. Many a rabbit or squirrel and many a snake have gone down to my public defender. Gladly i have never needed to use the 45 or triple defense, which i have for bears, or the human. That being said, the public defender is the best gun ive ever owned. Only problem i have is that some rounds have an expansion issue and lock up the cylinder. Only had this issue with the federal loads

was wondering if that would work, thanks for the info.

+1yankeecowboy The pressures for .45 acp are greater than .45 colt, so do at your own risk. The official Taurus position is it won't work.

Should have kept the one solid black. That's tactical. Appreciate the review.

ya but would this be a good snake gun with some #7.5 shot? I'm thinking it would be. I'm going to be moving into rattlesnake country so it's good to know these things. I'm no gun expert by any means and I'm going to be new to the outdoorsmen scene.

In this revolver you could use no.6 shot for snakes

The pachmayr grip blocks speed loaders and block some of the empties on eject.....I'd stick with what it came with..

Eastern Cowboy hadn't found a grip that would work with speed loader other than the stock one.
