i think at one point he was meant to be a companion! there's books about him like there is for astarion and shadowheart, and Larian has said they had candlekeep as a planned poi at one point, but it got scrapped. also, the simple fact that durge is an origin playthrough supports it as well imo.

There's something to be said about how consistently kind and compassionate Tav is. That alone is probably helping Durge not immediately give into his every, well, Urge.

I'm surprised more people don't name the Dark Urge as Dirge. Dirge is: -a funeral song, a ballad for the dead, something melancholic. Fitting for this tragic killer -an actual word -sounding exactly like Durge

What is the difference if you play as Durge and Orin doesnt kill him? How he is saved?

Spoiler territory: If you resist the Dark Urges throughout the game, Grandpa Withers pulls what is known as a 'true gamer move', and resurrects Durge after Bhaal kills them. Bhaal is only able to kill the Bhaalspawn part of you, while all of your good actions, willpower, and resistance against Bhaal is made into your soul. Withers uses that to bring you back as his Chosen, making Durge the Chosen of Jergal.
