Actual question for Jack, might be worth addressing in the next episode. Oldschool hotrods and lowriders were often called lead-sleds because all the body fill and many repairs were done with molten lead. I was wondering if that process is ever used today, perhaps with something less toxic like pewter. Anyway, keep up the great work.

I’ve often found that the more expensive the car, the worse the standard of body repair work you can expect on it. They assume that by the time someone can afford a car like that, they’re going to be older people, with little mechanical knowledge, and who only drive the car now and then. They might even overlook minor imperfections in work. Some body shops trust in this. What they HATE though are “picky car owners” of any type of car at all. I took my forty year old (but immaculate original condition) Celica in for an insurance job on a small dent on the back fender. When I went to pick it up, I noticed some of the original dealer fitted pinstripes were missing in patches. I complained immediately and they revealed they clean the cars with pressure washers, which probably blew off the old pinstriping. They seemed to think it was no big deal and to just tell people “they fell off with age”. Nope. I made them find a pinstriped (not easy these days) and repair as much as possible at their expense. They weren’t happy.
