I used to love doing the timing belts on in-line engined Audis. Yes, you had to take the front end off, but that was pretty easy and it didn't take long (worst part was refilling/bleeding the coolant system afterwards). But it meant you saved time and stress on the actual belt job cos it was so much easier to access everything and ensure you got the job done right first time. Audi had a set of pins you could use to slide the front forward and support it, but I preferred dumping it all on the ground to get it completely out of the way. Most other European front wheel drive vehicles have a transverse engine and gearbox, so doing a belt on those was a pain, as there was always an inner wheel arch in the way and you maybe had to drop the engine mount as well.

Looking over how they held up years later, yeah it was a dream I don't mind never coming true. I'd rather any 5 cylinder Volvo turbo from that era if I needed to depend on it getting me home cross country. They have their various issues too, but are much simpler to work on and far more reliable. Glad you made it! :)

Audis are brilliant cars Tavarish. i had an Audi A5 3.0 TDI Quattro for 3 years of trouble free motoring. Mine was a 2009 and bought with 60k miles on it and got rid of it at 110k and it is one of the biggest regrets in my car history. I loved that car and only sold it as a 2 door coupe, but needed a 4 door for personal reasons, but I would love to have another one. The 3.0TDI put out 240 BHP and a simple remap took it to 310, even with the DPF and EGR in place as its illegal to remove or delete them over here in the UK. If you don't like the petrol engines, try a diesel, you won't regret it, seriously amazing cars. Mine was 5.6 sec 0-62 (100kph) before the remap, but never had it dyno'd. You have a go in a 3.0 TDI Quattro and you'll never go back... PS. Disconnecting the battery for half an hour so so should reset the codes and the crank position sensor, maybe... :)

Modern luxury cars still have it buried somewhere as one of the digital odometer screen or heads up dosplay. For decades it was a physical compass on the dash or OLED in the mirror. Everyday mass production vehicles like the 2000s ford products or Toyota FJ cruisers ... I am sure many others.

i honestly kinda like this car but can agree that its a pain to work on a friend of mine had 2-3 inch line that broke there was no way to fix it without taking almost everything from the engine he even tought to scrap the car but after a week he somehow managed to fix it in the most jank way by cutting the line and somehow wedging a modified tube conector in there and im still suprised it held for almost 2 years until he sold it still working perfectly also that was i think the only problem he had with it.

Making it home and breaking down in the driveway is an Audi thing. I had a 2004 A8L that I was driving home on about 175 mile trip. About 50 miles in it started to hiccup and the primary fuel pump started making noise. At about 100 mile into the trip the engine started cutting out but restarted every time in neutral while coasting. As soon as I pulled into my driveway and I put in park the engine quit and wouldn’t restart again. It may died but at least it’ll do it in a convenient place.

I don't usually comment but i had to this time!! Audi doesn't make an unreliable car for more then 30 years, you might not like it, but they are the most reliable cars out here only beaten, perhaps, by Toyota. To jump start a manual car you have to put in 2nd Gear not 1st, unless you want to break your gearbox, specially downhill!! Apart of this, Great Channel and i'm a big fan!! Cheers

The not knowing makes it very nerve-racking. STRESSFUL. I went through the same thing with a 98 A6 Wagon. I actually like the look. I kept it alive for 250,000 miles. Had to take the whole front off in a Autozone to change an alternator. Not fun. I always carried a full assortment of tools and parts. ALL ways a stressful car to drive. Still one of my favorites.

Not sure why people bag on the Allroad. Our 2.7T 6 speed manual was a great car. We leased it for 3 years and nary a problem - weakest part were the "soft-touch" painted interior pieces that would love to peel. Dealer always replaced them under warranty. At the end of the lease we wanted to buy it, but Audi really wanted it back as they sold like hotcakes up north as winter/ski cars. A very cool ride, not much else like it.

Personally, driving an 2015 Audi Q7 is a positive experience, with its dynamic air suspension is everything you could dream for. Heated seats, FM radio, 75 litre diesel tank, it's the best daily driver I could dream for. I don't understand why there's so much hate on that Audi. My Grandpa has an Audi All-road and he drove it from WA to Tasmania once, wonderful fuel efficiency and a comfortable ride. Only problem was that the battery is one of the cheaper ones so they keep on dying.

@@maraudingmerc9381 Yeah thats true. The only affordable cars are gas guzzlers so that's the trade off. They're shit on gas but if they're decent on maintenance I'll make it work. Overall while there are so many cool cars and tech out there, these things have become cellphones. They all fall apart sooner than you want, and if they don't, they're just not economical to run. I guess corolla's still exist but the options are still not great.

C5 era Audis were fantastic but only the 4.2 engine with a 01E transmission swap. I had 3 C5s (1 4.2 Sedan and 2 S6 Avants) and all were fantastic and very reliable. Service-mode (front end off) can be avoided in some cases with careful hands and bendy tools, but ditching the ZF transmission in any (read every) B4 C5 D2 is a necessity.

My Audi Allroad was one the best rides I ever had, bought it new added a performance chip, replaced the 2 Blow-Off Valves and it became a very fast torque traction monster that handled everything with it's Torsen Differential AWD. Before the Allroad I owned a Audi V8 that used front and back a Torsen Differentials AWD system that made me a AWD believer and a RWD HATER. I put 47k trouble free miles on the Allroad and loved every mile of it. Back then when I purchased the Audi V8, Mercedes and BMW where crapping all over Audi AWD saying it wasn't needed while Audi AWD was dominating racing, I never considered buying a Mercedes or BWM since then. I'm a happy AWD traction man FOREVER. NOW look AWD is here there everywhere thanks to Audi and Subaru. I did own a Subaru SVX which was a great ride.
