I work at the theatre that is right by her high school, in her hometown of Oak Park, IL, and some of my coworkers actually graduated with her this year. We're the same age and yet she's had all these wonderful opportunities and I feel so unaccomplished next to someone who I find to be so similar to myself. It's a strange feeling, but good for her, you know? It's lovely seeing youth succeed.

I admire Tavi so much. I remember looking at her blog when I was thirteen and just amazed that some girl only one year older than me was doing the stuff she was doing. She is such an inspiration. Great video.

I followed her blog since almost the beginning. I remember the scandal over her attending fashion week with the bow headpiece, and being angry on her behalf that people were snidely attacking her in a the public sphere... and now look at her! She's further developed her talents and become very successful, grown into a poised and beautiful young woman with a lot of accomplishments. Good for her!

Kanye gets me up in the morning too, and the way he's predicted and guided the culture gave me a new understanding of the potential of my own creative work. This made me feel so great. Thank god Tavi picks her own inspirations and doesn't let the culture pick for her. That taste and confidence got her where she is.

Beyonce is so overrated. She is of course an amazing singer and very beautiful. She appears to be a great mother as well but I find her to be inauthentic and puppeteered by her mother, husband, and everyone on her payroll.

What amazes me is the fact that such brilliant artists and creative minds like Iris Apfel and the likes of her, or great bands and musicians from 60s and 70s have inspired a generation or two of completely mediocre people with ideas that were regurgitated a billion times. I hope that she will grow out of this into something better, because so far, what I've seen from this girl is really way bellow mediocrity in the artistic world. She is just a bland of different influences, with no significant input of her own. Obviously for peole like her, young or old, it is just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I hope that she will justify it by developing something interesting or new in her expression, instead of being a pretentious deluded person with minimum talent, which is a common sight in any creative field.

Tavi is a brilliant speaker, an inspirational and accessible feminist, and her aesthetic sense is absolutely flawless. She also happens to sing beautifully (I suggest checking out her covers of Joni Mitchell and Neil Young). That being said, I would do terrible, awful things to spend one night with her so I'm really glad that she's finally 18.
