How can we pay back the depth of commitment Taiwo Oyedele is providing this country with regard to these fiscal reforms? I am struggling to come up with a non-political actor in our recent history who has given so much of his time, intellect and stellar competencies in service to our country. This man and his team deserves our deepest gratitude. The quality of foresight, thought, and work put into these bills is outstanding 🤏🏽. Thank you so much for your service, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele. May prosperity be exceedingly kind to you. 🙏🏽

Nigeria is blessed Wallahi!!!! This man is articulate a beg. He knows what he is doing. And to the Governors, They are fooling themselves up and down shouting that they were not consulted, whereas they are the ones who shamelessly appointed olodos as Finance Commissioners and Revenue Service Heads, men that cannot discuss issues. They were all consulted and some of them even served in the Committees, but because they are olodos, they don't even know what they are doing and they can't explain to their governors. Shame!!!

Mr. Oyedele i salute you and your team for national service on tax reform bill. However i must say it categorically that i and those who love the educational development of this nation totally disagree with you and against the planned removal of Tetfund. Tetfund is the only little pint of blood that's sustaining tetritary education in Nigeria, removing it means the total death of tertiary education in Nigeria. As of today it's the only institution that finance physical and manpower development in over 90% of all tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Please revert that section.

FG should diversify investment, open seaport in the SS, construct road from Aba to Porthacourt, so that other state can compete, not only Lagos and Abuja. Or return the system to regional system of governance.
@Ismobell_MD
@Ismobell_MD 5 сағат бұрын
Dear Mr Taiwo, One of the key issues raised by your committee regarding the urgent need for this reform is the pending cases brought by Rivers and Lagos States, where they are seeking to collect VAT independently. As you described, such an outcome would be precarious in terms of collection efficiency and equity. Your committee believes that proposing a formula with greater emphasis on derivation will dissuade these states from pursuing their cases. However, it is evident that these states would not have filed such suits if they did not anticipate significant benefits. From my understanding, their primary aim is to secure a larger share of VAT revenue under the current framework, given their status as the highest "contributors". Paradoxically, your committee’s proposed formula appears to make Lagos and Rivers the biggest losers-a point the chairman has repeatedly emphasized in various fora. This raises an important question: how can we reconcile this seeming contradiction? How will the committee convince Rivers and Lagos to withdraw their cases when your new proposal places them at a clear disadvantage? With due respect, something doesn’t quite add up here.

The one problem with this bills that i see is further centralization of power in the federal government, which would lead to the fed govt changing things around to suit them. Anyway you cut it, the IGBO loses. Because any reasonable person would agree that Igbos contribute about 50 or more % to the vat. How and why ? IGBOs have the highest purchasing power of any ethnic group in Nigeria and all of Africa. But Nigerian national policies have made their homeland unattractive, forcing them to live and spend their money else where such that again, more than 50% of vat revenue given to Lagos for example, came from IGBOs. Again, because Nigeria has also, cleverly made the Census the only federal program in which the ubiquitous " state of origin" no longer applied, coupled with deliberate under counting, said IGBOs are far fewer than they actually are . It means that they lose on both derivation and on population. So, they continue to pay taxes that do not benefit their home land.
