Hi Adam. I love your channel. Sukiya has a bunch of restaurant brands and Hama-sushi is just one of them. First, they tried to buy Sushirou, the biggest sushi chain in Japan, but failed. And then started their own brand Hama-sushi about 15 years ago. Hama sushi is big enough now, but Kura sushi has alomost 50 years history in sushi buisiness. If you feel Kura sushi is superior, you are right.

I'll be back in two weeks. And in Japan with very little cash? Wow. Good luck to anyone in that predicament. I know that because of the pandemic, many businesses started to take credit cards, but Japan is still very much a cash-first country.

One way trip along Shinkan from Kawasaki, where I'm staying while being around Tokyo, to Osaka, is $116 one way. If I plan to travel to other cities while I'm staying in Osaka and Tokyo, especially an hour or more away, the JR pass is probably worth it for those trips at the very least.

Do you ever get more adventurous with the sushi varieties? I once took the plunge on eel and swordfish, and now those are some of my go-tos. Some others (like the roe) are a bit more of an acquired taste, methinks.

Just in your opinion Adam, if I plan to take the train from toyko to Osaka and back, just two times total throughout my trip, as well as from Osaka to Kyoto and Tokyo's outlying districts, do you think there are enough rail routes that I don't need the JR pass? It seems like in Tokyo itself, the JR pass doesn't have many lines. It's just a $440 commitment. I don't wanna buy that and then have to spend a time on separate rails on top of it. Obviously I'll be looking for games mostly.
@AdamEatsTheWorld

The JR Pass is only worth it if you take the Shinkansen at least once there and once back. After that it's just a bonus to use on things. It sounds like you intend to go well above that.
@cax1175
@cax1175 Жыл бұрын
@@AdamEatsTheWorld Yeah, I will be going all around Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto. I guess I'll have to definitively plan my route. If I plan to go to like Hiroshima or farther when I'm staying in Osaka, then the JR pass might be worth it.
@matsu242

been travelling to Japan for over 15 years. As Adam said, if you plan on using the Shinkansen then the JR pass is worth it, especially if youre going to Kyoto and Osaka. its a nice experience to have and honestly to take other types of trains will still cost a bit and take way longer (may as well save time on a short trip) there are JR lines in every city so itll be useful for moving around. The main loop line in Tokyo (Yamanote Line) will get you to all the main places and is JR. theres tonnes pf JR local lines as well. although you’ll find jumping between the metro and jr lines to be the most efficient and easiest way to go. get yourself a PASMO card and charge it for the metro lines

So if I were to pay total minus tax at the counter with paperwork I don't need to do anything when departuring?
@AdamEatsTheWorld
@AdamEatsTheWorld Жыл бұрын
No matter what, even when various clerks tell you otherwise, you don't need to do anything at departure. The people selling stuff haven't quite caught up to the automation yet. Meaning, they'll put little papers and stamps in your passport expecting a guy at the airport to check it. Said guy at the airport doesn't exist. Just let them do their process, once you have the cash refund, you'll never hear about it again.

you probably know but you should be able to withdraw money from your credit card at a 7/11 (english menu on the atm) not ideal with fees but good if your in a bit of a jam cash wise
