Why don't you try the taxi job for a month and see what happens before complaining ? I have friends that does it for a living, they have to wake up at 1 to 2 am in the morning just to get in line for passengers and sometimes even at that time they don't get any passengers from kohima and even if they get, there are slim chances of getting any passenger in dimapur. They have to sleep in the hot weather in dimapur inside the car since no passenger and they can't return empty handed, and if the road is bad, smaller cars like alto 800 gets damaged on the road and needs daily maintenance and repairs (you won't know how much money it cost to maintain a car if you don't have one). And if you look carefully they aren't even earning much with the current taxi fair, that's how they are struggling and looking at the current road conditions smaller cars cannot go through those roads but some are still going despite the risk of their cars getting damaged by the roads... So even 500 is less for such road conditions if I think carefully.

The fare remains constant. What about the the fare pricing that the taxi drivers have raised by themselves after the DC order was out ? Local Taxis: Phoolbari to ISBT, Kohima-full hire Rs.160 and Rs. 40 per head But they charge 200 for hire and 50 rs per head. Their reason were : change nai , change natakay ? Few months back I went to kohima from isbt to town. I knew the price of the fare , but I just asked. The driver told it's 300. Actually it should be 200 according to what the ask in normal days. I understand at these conditions of the road . It's 500 is ok . But they also need to have integrity of work and have sincerity and honesty. If that is so we the public will even tip them.

Since you guys are raising issue on taxi fare, I also would like to raise an issue to Hornbill tv regarding zonal Taxis between Kma n Dmp. Accha! Im a resident of kohima and 3,4 years back I used to reach Dmp by just Rs. 350/- from High School Juntion but since this inception of ISBT, I spent Rs. 630 to reach Dimapur, and since all are not rich, hardly maintening daily expenses, and topping on that, isn't it better to ply one Zonal taxi instead of four local taxi frm HS junction to ISBT.

The right question should be " Did relocating the ISBT really help in relieving the traffic congestion at Kohima Town ? Did it help in generatinf more employment among the cabbies and the scooty taxies? Was it worth having ISBT at the new location without having bus shuttle service every half an hour from the ISBT to atleast Kohima Town at minimal price? Why is there not even a single NST bus plying from ISBT to Kohima Town ? If Airports in Assam has ASTC buses connecting to Ghy railway stations at affordable prices, then why can't Nagaland government do something for the common naga citizen who is worried about spending that extra Rs 150- ( his two days shikar budget ).

Please put in some logic before you put up such #title/opinion about your reporting. You have a huge dedicated subscriber and can trigger a false alarm to the ignorant public. For people who might be confused or is whining about the price hike, here are few obvious reasons: 1. Longer route/distance = more fuel consumption = more money to buy fuel. 2. Not poor but very poor road condition of those alternative route = more maintenance expenditure of the vehicle. 3. Passengers are not forced to travel by taxi alone and they have the choice to make any other alternative arrangements. 4. It might be a better if the media can help in how to pressure the government to exacerbate the clearing process of the highway for public convenience. 5. Landslides along the highway is not a new thing during this monsoon season and with such natural phenomena causing huge inconvenience to all citizens, the need for having a proper well mentained alternative route is what can be a better point of discussion to pressure the government. Considering the road condition, 500 is a very reasonable one. I took my bike on the very first day when road was diverted to Sechuma-Mezoma- Khonoma-Jotsoma-Kohima. It was my worst experience as the road was opened for the first time in 2024 and it was drizzling on that day as well. I understand the plight of the taxi drivers as well.
