Go peep the NYC murder rates through the 80's and 90's when I was a just off the stoop and the 80's and 90's Chicago muder rates then compare the two to the current stats. It's wild how much it's dropped. Back when I was a kid it was gunshots, sirens, mfs getting thrown off roofs, beat and stabbed, snipers in the PJs, raids, helicopters circling, just non-stop craziness 24/7/365, it wasn't shit to know multiple people with 5+ bodies and ya could get wacked for just about anything, cops were even catchin slugs more regular. Crack took communities that had been gettin obliterated by H and turned em up and then the "war on drugs" ramped up as did police militarization and between the pigs, drug crews, homegrown decks and gangs there wasn't no such thing as peace in mad hoods. Now, if ya live in anything like a red zone there's cops everywhere and no matter how nice or fucked up the area is its cameras all over the damn place so there ain't no gettin away with much nowadays. On top of that they upped the sentencing guidelines on anything to do with a gun that ya do mandatory time over some real bs. Thousands of bodies a year dropped to a few hundred but they really did it by gentrifying us tf up outta our neighborhoods and pushin us either outta the city entirely or into small red zones covered by pigs and cameras. And they been known to raid houses cause of social media posts and bs like that too. Back in the day ya could get away with damn near anything it was so hectic, I mean just the subway felonies were like 250+ A DAY, but now ya gotta be a mf assassin type to even hope to pull off any kinda caper or hit. Nice that the bodies ain't stacking like it was but they did by killin the soul of the city, the places I came up are all flipped and turned into yuppie playgrounds. It's sad af. And they tryna do Chicago the same.
