The bloom comes off the rose....nature is nothing relative to US and Europe, food is great but meaty and high fat and red pepper sauce, kimchi is not for everyone, super materialistic and status is 100% tied to money, highest elderly poverty, highest suicide rates of OECD Countries, work hours are long, vacations 4 days max, uktra skinny white is beauty standard. Absolute hell to get in college, judgmental about looks and behavior, rampant alcoholism.....every society works for the elite and privileged. This is the fantasy dramas and kpop are selling.

i LOVED this, the honestly and transparency you guys gave was amazing. I plan on moving to Korea for language school, and i can’t tell you how many videos i see that make me feel so discouraged about moving there. I loved that you guys made the point about the issues you have faced are because you’re a foreigner and not necessarily just because you’re black( not to say ppl haven’t faced issues for their blackness).The entire video was amazing and really insightful and has definitely lowered some level of anxiety i felt in regards to my move💗💗

I legit loved everything about this video. I feel like crying because I am a single black woman who is currently living in America. What you all assumed about being a blank person in America during the height of Black Lives Matter was absolutely correct. What I felt internally I can’t even begin to explain how traumatic and life changing it was for me personally. Not only do I experience trauma in public but I also had/have it in my own family, being that I am a black woman adopted into an all-white family. I recently made the decision to apply with Epik and will be moving there for this fall semester in August and watching your video made me so happy. The thought of feeling better mentally and enjoying life again made me cry. Thank you for making this video I really needed to hear these things thank you all. You are appreciated!! 🥹🫶🏽🙏🏽

Yes. They treat us differently simply because we're foreigners, but there's an added layer of being Black. Don't believe it when Koreans say being Black has "nothing to do with it'. That's not true. These ladies are smart/educated, and have developed emotional/social intelligence, which comes from living in the US, a very diverse country. Many of us have traveled all over the world. I enjoyed listening to them talk about their students and how they teach them about the world. 😊 They're blessed to have them. I hope they continue to grow and develop. When it comes to dating, the concensus seems to be Korean men aren't interested in anything meaningful and long term with Black women. I would agree with that, and I recommend a Black woman not give Korea too much of her life, IF she desires marriage and a family, or just a long-term, serious relationship. Thinking you're going to meet your "Minho" in a club, and you're going to start this whirlwind romance, that ends in marriage and life in a high rise overlooking the Han River, with evenings spent drinking Soju and eating fried chicken is setting yourself up for disappointment Koreans have very strong cultural ties, and need their family/friends/community to approve of their romantic relationships. You don't want to be a Korean guy's "social experiment", only to end up falling in love, and him not standing up for you, and caving to the wishes of his family. That happened to a Black KZbinr from the UK. She was crushed. So you really have to be wise, observant - not defensive, but not naive and reckless with your heart, just like with any man. Ask questions. Don't think their attraction to you will make them "risk it all". It will not. "Kelsey The Korean" made a video talking about how Koreans never fully accept foreigners - deep, abiding friendships aren't common. It's very important to find your tribe - other Black people or other foreigners, and try to get your need for fellowship and community met. If you can do that, and you must if you plan to be there any amount of time, it can make all the difference in the world, when it comes to your mental health. Yes, everyone's experience is different, but do your research, because you will find a common thread, particularly when it comes to dating and making deep friendships.. Information is power. It's best to listen to different experiences, so you don't go over there with unrealistic expectations.

한국인들은 혼혈에 대해 좋지 않은 기억이 있습니다. 800년 전 몽골의 침략, 일제 시대, 6.25전쟁 등 외국에 침략당하면 죽음과 혼혈이란 흔적이 남았었습니다. 특히 흑인과의 혼혈은 처음 본 인종이라 충격이 더 컸구요. 하지만 다양한 인종을 접하고 익숙해지면서 개선되어가고 있습니다. 개인적으론, 인종을 막론하고 이쁜 분들은 이쁘게 보일 만큼 익숙해 졌습니다. ㅎㅎ

You ladies are such a breath of fresh air. We hear so many great stories and get great advice about being black in Korea and you ladies just confirmed everything. My daughter will be there next yr to attend University. She started Korean language courses earlier this yr to ensure that she can speak, write, and read the language. Me on the other hand...lol. I'm even interested in moving there, however, I'm not sure what I would do for income. But that's just research. Lol Thank you all Queens for being open, vulnerable, and honest!!! Bahiya13, maybe you could do a remote job that's based in your own country, but that you can do living wherever you want to live. There's a guy at my job (based in the US) who decided to be a digital nomad, so he moves to different countries every 3 months and works from there. It's possible if you do work that can be done remotely.

I have had the opportunity to travel, school and live in Africa, Europe and America and travel to Australia. This was an excellent video. Thank you all so much for putting it together. When l started as a Language Assistant in Madrid, Spain in 2007, l was the first black person students had ever seen in general. Of course, the little kids wanted to touch my hair. They did ask and their response was how soft it was. Worked as a university professor and there were two of us in the modern languages department. I think at my new uni, l will be the only chocolate chip in the cookie. I am happy to be where l am and helping to break stereotypes as well. WOW!!! Its so great that you are making the move! I am 50, my daughter is 18 next year and I always say I'm too old to move there now. I honestly wish there were more videos talking about people who move there and they are in their 30's 40's and 50's. Just aren't many of those videos. Good luck on your adventure. :)

Thank you Hunter, Courtney and Tayler. I have enjoyed watching your thoughts and experiences living in Korea. I'm so happy that most of your experiences are positive, in fact, more than 90% positive. I came to USA as a 19 year old who had just graduated from high school, born and raised in an East African country, name withheld on purpose. Attended college, graduated, and been working for 18 years now, if college years are added, its been 22 years in all. Before I came to U.S. there are things I was made to study using books, magazines and correspondence by mails. However, a lot of things that I read about America are different from what experiences here. History was 'white washed and twisted. Of all things that I was made to read, there were nothing at all about Black America. I had never had something to do with shootings, racism, police brutality, poverty, wealth inequality,...I have friends that I went to college with and coworkers who are my friends wonderful friends that have been my rock since I got here, in addition to my small family. But if I were to choose-I'd rather have these back where I was born.

Thank you for making this video. I’m tryin to visit in about a year, and even thought about going to finish art school/teaching there for a while. Everyone’s against it except for my mom and she always encourages me to travel. And especially encouraging me to learn Korean! 😊(working on it 👍🏽) I’ve been hearing bad things or KZbinrs putting up bad videos And in my experience (except like 2x) I’ve had completely positive interactions with Korean people.💜 Not every thing will be positive and I know their experiences might have been different, so I can’t say too much on that. It felt really weird at times. I always try to keep an open mind…not everyone is like that, or will have that experience. No matter how old I am😑My mom is always concerned about me trying to travel but that is true about the underlying anxiety of going somewhere in the U.S. versus ANYWHERE else! (Especially if you’re black.) My mom is more content with me traveling to South Korea than Chicago!!! Like?! It’s a real thing and I’m glad you guys mentioned it. It’s also nice to see more than one person’s advice about traveling in general, and to South Korea. So thanks sorry this is long but yeah! 💕 looking forward to more videos too! 💕 ok have a great day!

I have been offered a teaching job in South Korea and am thinking about it but note sure of how that will go. Can you give me some advice. I love the fact that you posted this, because I've been wanting to visit Korea and bring my teen daughter. I agree, I believe that black people should travel MUCH more. I've had some concerns about how they perceive us, but do wanted to come. I can read and write in Hangul and made myself familiar with the culture, including bath houses.. WHICH I LOVE!! BLACK TRAVEL MOVEMENT! Love that. I think the reasons why Black people do not travel is the views and how would other think about black people but I think it’s lack of resources and time. We are working to just getting out of poverty and or make sure we maintain our lifestyles especially with the inflation of prices. I’m like bump all that hahaha. I’m taking budgeting classes or asking around to get a better understanding how to budget and starting a travel fund. I am cultured but I need to be more cultured. TIME TO TRAVEL LETS DO IT.

However, I have had this itching to live in Korea and this is the most country that I have actually been interested in even if it was just to visit. Luckily I live in the Bay so it's not too isolating an experience but when I was young I went years being one of two Black people in my school. Awww I’m so glad! 😊 Yeah teaching is one of the easiest ways to live in Korea. For you though, I would look into the Entertainment Visa which is the E6 I believe. However, I know that one is harder to get. There are some videos about it in KZbin though.

In order to date properly, you have to be in full control of your emotions so you can take the risk of getting your feelings hurt❤ in order to date properly. You have to be willing to change your looks.❤ in order to date properly you need to be willing to touch and be touched properly❤ there are ladies who have problems when it comes to being touched properly because they probably were not touched properly in your younger years❤ every man and every woman needs some form of counseling or coaching, so they can be emotionally strong enough to meet and mate successfully in life❤

I'll admit, I was a little hesitant on clicking this video as, far too often, the people in these videos tend to become way too entitled and whiny, or outright hateful at worst, often just start going off about the locals in the area they're in and ranting about their "uneducated bigotry" about them. Honestly, I was fearing this video would've been just that. But I was pleasantly surprised that this video ended up being the opposite. Positive vibes all around. Even when talking about the bad parts, it still remained civil and reasonable. Great video👍. Honestly saddens me that videos like these often get shafted by the overly negative ones mentioned above. Seems like everybody nowadays is too quick to hate things.

I think most Korean discriminate people by behavior and character of person than color of skin. No matter what color of skin if behavior and attitude is bad, they'll discriminate period. As long as foreigners are well behave, respectful, good civil manner i don't think most Korean discrimnate because of color of skin. Color is all; yellow, brown, chocolate, black, white, pink, they're all colors. I don't think most Korean people discriminate you ladies bc black. I think you ladies are intelligent and respectful, just don't take granted, advantage being kind by Korean.

I want to temporarily come to South Korea in 2 years, I've been taking courses to learn Korean, I've been using language exchange apps to meet people to help and to form friendships. Can you give me advise on how I can stay abroad for 6 months or longer.

I think the route most people take if you’re from one of the 7 eligible countries is to come teach here for a year. I know there is also a working holiday visa you could get, but I don’t have too much information around that unfortunately. Or you could enroll as a language student at a university (again I’m not sure about much of the specifics around that). Finally, before Covid, if you were American you could stay in Korea up to 3 months visa-free and then go to another country as short as for a weekend and then come back to Korea for another 3 months, but that process has obviously gotten more complicated due Covid and I’m not sure if any of the tourist visa policies have changed. Hope that helps!

as a non black person, the only thing I can add is that there are a lot of things that Koreans aren't aware of that may offend you without meaning to. For example, I was teaching and a kid yelled out the N word (not with ER, with A) and I stopped in my lesson. I was about to say something but since Im not fluent in Korena, and these kids have zero understanding about the history of slavery and everything it'll be hard to explain in a single sentence aside from - dont say that. The kid was confused and asked why? I later reached out to the kid 8 years later and with him speaking more english, we had a good discussion. Please don't go to Korea assuming the world studies American history, they do not. Just like how you have no clue bout which general ruled which dynasty or etc in Korea/China, don't assume it's a required knowledge for any other country.

It scared the crap out of her- and me by association, and the granny just said, "Oh sorry! Your hair looked different." My friend said it was fine to both her and I afterward, but it made me feel very irritated.
