Overall one of my favorite Schmoedown matches in a while. Started with a fun opening with Mara and Mike, much more interesting than the typical more hostile face-offs. In the match itself, Greg Alba has proven to be probably my favorite competitor to watch just for the humor if nothing else. But he also had some great pulls and earned that win, so overall a treat to watch. And Ghai is surprisingly a fantastic commentator. Clear and easy to understand, great banter with Mark, and overall sounds as professional as if he had been doing it for years.

Finstock telling her to spin away from Batman was a brutal moment of manager folly. She said she was comfortable taking it and then he said spin away and Taylor listened to her manager when she should have ignored him. Bobby should be thinking long and hard about that blunder because he did Taylor dirty with that one.

Just a small bit of constructive criticism. There needs to be a more solid standard for the hosts making sure the contestants say final answer. The first 3 questions of Greg's round 2 show a huge disparity of how it's handled. Question 1 he answers questioningly without saying final answer, there is a long pause, Mark asks for final answer, Greg says "Sure why not" and then Mark calls it as correct. Question 2 he answers questioningly without saying final answer again, but this time Mark immediately calls it as incorrect, and then Greg immediately remembers the correct answer. Question 3 he answers a little more confidently but still questioning it, there is a short pause, before he nods and says "Yes" at the same time Mark is already calling it as correct. I'm not going to say this had a huge effect, but it's still something that jumped out at me.

One version of this, from looking it at as an internet trivia game, can be: this constructive criticism really seems very much caught up in semantics. And it’s more conversational just having fun playing a game The other version, is that it’s a competitive sport: in which case you make some very strong points here and there outta be a laid out definitive thing about declaring Final Answer

You could also look at it from the perspective of how different players would react differently. Big fan of Alba, sad it took us so long to see him this year! To step up despite it being vaccine day (and maybe be a little quick because of it) shows a real love of the game and desire to entertain. I’m not one to take this all to serious. Playing last time I wanted to prove to people that I could do it but ultimately I didn’t enjoy the experience. I must say, as a competitive person myself, if I went all out training on something and really gave it 100% it would be much tougher for me to stomach losing to somebody who was just doing it for fun and not really trying that hard, vs. losing to another opponent who had gone all out to win like I had. That cutscene at the beginning had me in tears. I'm glad that Mike and Mara can play off of each other so well. One of the strongest of the season for sure. Josh Macuga may have retired, but Greg Alba is doing an admirable job of filling that role in the schmoedown. He's fun, he makes the match a lot more laid back, and he's good enough to win some matches without it feeling like he's pulling stuff out of his ass. He didn't play well today; we've seen Alba play way better against kalinowski and he couldn't harness that level of consistency today. While Alba had a sloppy game overall, he was able to dig down and get the late answers he needed to pull out the win today. Alba seems to have hit his comfort level with Coy as his manager. Not a good game from Taylor today. She's improved from a few years ago without question; her solid showing in round one is proof enough of that. As everyone has said, Taylor and Gucci not being on the same page during round two put her behind the eight ball in a match where she needed things like that to go right in order to pull off the upset. Checking down to multiple choice a ton in round two isn't a bad play, but giving up on the five pointer (which was an admittedly really hard) is never a good look. Hopefully Taylor bounces back strong in her next match.

Got a whole lot else going on and I’d rather have fun playing than stress out over winning a match. And gambling for anything less was too risky. She could of done better in Batman than you’re giving her credit for. If Gucci’s internet was cutting in and out and caught her coming to that final decision, he would have believed in his competitors resolve.
