Thank you so much for the info and the wiring diagram. Very helpful. I recently pulled my treasured Standard out to play, and a couple of positions on the switch were not working, and the pots were a bit scratchy. I put Deoxit on the contacts and worked it back and forth and let it penetrate and worked it some more (without taking it out). It got better - switching was quieter, but there were still dead positions. I unplugged the connectors from the PCB and put Deoxit on the pins and dripped it in the connectors. Then I pulled and unplugged them repeatedly. After a bit of persistence, all the positions worked again. Yay! Hope this helps someone else with the issue to at least put off having to put in a new switch.

Check out Free-way switches at stew-mac. I replaced the 8-way in my G&L ASAT Classic S the the Free-way 5-way and it's a much simpler switching system. I'm seriously considering one of these Taylors in the used market and will definitely consider a free-way switch should the original break.

Hi! just recently bought an used one of these, I love it, but i has the issue. My question is, can the switch and pots be unmounted and just put new one into the pbc stuff? I know how to solder and your diagram is great, but for some reason I would like to keep the guitar original if possible.

Unfortunately, everything about the switch is proprietary. Your best bet is to scour the internet for a new old stock Taylor switch. I'm sorry I can't help :(

“Help me ObiWanKenobi, you’re my only hope!” Earle, thanks for the diagrams. Do you recall if your pickup wire color codes labeled a “yellowish tan” wire as “white?” I’m about to begin this project on an SB-1 with mini-HBs. Praying that the wires are the same.

@@EarleWood Thanks! Just as in your diagram (green, red, black, and thick black), but a "yellowish tan" instead of white. I'd like to assume that its the same, as Taylor wanted these to be plug n'play and used the same HORRIBLE selector switch for all - which would necessitate the same pins on the switch's PCB, right?? Also, did you add any glue to the underside of the Taylor bracket which holds the switch in place? If so, any recommendation? Thanks!

@@saintchuck1515 Yellowish tan should be white. For the soldering iron and the Megaswitch-P, the contacts are only on the circuit side, so that's where you apply heat.

I had a "duhhh" moment when I looked again at the Megaswitch P pcb. :) I'm knocking this out today after having relegated this guitar to storage after the switch stopped responding to DeOxIt, and the aluminum bridge bolt broke. It took several letters to Bob Taylor for the company to find/send a replacement bridge! I'm so thankful for all of the resources you provided to this issue!

Is the original switch a standard size, that is, Strat dimensions, or is it something else?
