58 year old Swiftie in 2024 studying psychotherapy.. Her real talent is allowing us to find our meaning in the artwork that she gives us. That is a true artist. We take from it what we need to hear in ourselves. In that way it is so much like therapy which is why she can connect to and be so relevant to such a huge audience. For me the significance in this MV is putting on the cardigan at the end, finding your inners self to nurture and love the broken parts( lost, cold, old and damaged) of ourselves and not give that part away to others. Beautiful!

It just occurred to me after the millionth listen that "you put me on and said I was your favorite" means this meaning of "put on": an act or instance of putting someone on. a prank or pretense, especially one perpetrated or assumed in mock seriousness; hoax; spoof. affected manner or behavior; pretentiousness. Because of the lines about him leaving, running, and haunting her what ifs and thinking she sees him everywhere, like in the grocery line. And her "knowing" he'd come back to her (she knew nothing but thought she knew everything when she was young). And when she felt like an old cardigan under someone's bed, he put her on (lied) and said she was his favorite. I totally never got this meaning before.
