Her friends were curious why football is such an important aspect of American high school experiences because in American movies and TV shows, football is a big part of it. My point was, I have a friend who is French who said the same thing. She grew up watching a lot of American movies and tv shows showing the high school experience and wondered if high school is really like that in the USA. She said the You Belong With Me video was her example of what typical highshool is like in America. So the point with the Miss Americana song is that Taylor is trying to write from that perspective of that stereotypical high school image, which she actually did do anyway in old songs like YBWM.
