Thank you all! I am now aware this song is about Scott Borchetta but as a non-fan, I am not super in touch with her work and am hearing things without that knowledge. The song is obviously designed to be heard either way, right? A sign of good songwriting. Thank you all for informing.

Actually its not only abt scott B but also abt her friends that showed their true colours during Tay's worst days(the time she was labeled as liar/fake - which finally proven wrong (but that is another story)

Just a heads up it’s not actually about a break up. It’s actually about her record label selling her albums to a man they knew she didn’t like.
@ashishchoudhary87004 жыл бұрын
And she didn't like him bc he bullied her along side Kanye West and Justin Bieber. Just bc she alone was more rich and successful then them 3 combined was the jealous and these 3 grown ass married men started to bully her online and made a whole mv in which Kanye strips her body dummy. And then her manager sold her old album master(6albums) while cost around 350 million dollars to this asshole. That's why she signed with universal label and now further owns everything she puts out and in November she will be able to re record old albums. 😁. She uses alot of metaphor in her songwriting, not everything is about a breakup 😅😂.
@Brooks4304 жыл бұрын
Song is definitely about her former manager, Scott Borchetta, the guy she signed with as a teen because he would actually let her sing her own songs on albums...just to sell the masters for those songs to someone she despised, who also hated her for not working with him, instead of letting her buy them. She was very close to him and videos of them exist all over the internet showing it. I think this song reflects the death of that friendship.

@@JSteezy The song is definitely more relatable as a break up song so I guess its up to the listener to interpret like most music. There are a lot of songs about drug addiction that sound like they are about heartbreak and are interpreted as breakup songs by listeners.
@JSteezy4 жыл бұрын
@@Brooks430 Good point, that is certainly more relatable. Relationships of any kind, if vague enough, will end up being relatable in a love kind of way or addiction kind of way.

Pop music, especially, mines these universally resonant themes themes, I think. I think this song for her is about the masters depute, but really without any context it becomes a song about any relationship breakdown/ The listener can project what they want onto it. I think they were def going for a churchy vibe at the start!

That reminds me of a song you might know, which I like by an artist I am a fan of, Sara Bareilles. Love Song sounds like a love song but it's really about her breakup with a label but works the same way this one does, without the context. I should do a video or two of her. I think some TS fans will appreciate her and I've yet to see a video of hers so it would be freshhhh

Hi J. Nice rx. Yes Scott Borchetta. He turned into his worst fears, he wore the jewels she gave him as he buries her, he hears her stolen lullabies. It’s a great song lyrically. The first song she wrote on the album. It is a track 5. On all of Taylor’s albums, track 5 is the most emotional and vulnerable song for her. Track 5’s will have a deep meaning to her. Being a track 5, this means it’s the most emotional, if not hurtful and personal song on the entire album to her. It will always be her most raw. After you have finished folklore, if at the end you like the deeper more lyrical of her songs, it could be interesting to react to her track 5’s on her other albums. Like I said, they will always be deeply personal to her and emotional tracks where she uses song (like a diary) to release some of that emotion or just to get it off her chest what’s on her mind during writing of each album. Of course TS is known for writing about herself but she chooses track 5’s as the most meaningful and emotional for her. This was folklore’s track 5.

“my tears ricochet” is about her stolen lullabies and each line was taken from a song from each stolen album!! “i didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”- Red (State of Grace) “you’re the hero flying around saving face”- Speak Now (Superman) “and if I’m dead to you, why are you at the wake?”- rep (LWYMMD/old Taylor is dead) “cursing my name”- Fearless (The Way I Loved You) “wishing I stayed”- 1989 (All You Had to Do Was Stay) “look at how my tears ricochet”- Debut (Teardrops on my Guitar)

The narrative is about the perspective of the person who died, and the church I think are intentional to represent a funeral or ghosts.

saw someone comment this on another vid and thought it was super interesting!!! “The Scooter situation is extra sad cus it wasn't just about the song ownership, but also the betrayal. Taylor knew Scott Borchetta since she was 14, she was the main reason for the label succeeding (Borchetta worked for Universal Records at the time and said he could help her get signed there or she could wait a few months for him because he was starting his own label. She decided to wait, became his first signing, and that label became Big Machine Records). She danced with Borchetta at awards shows, covered a song on the Fearless album because it was by his favorite band (she has songwriting credit on it cus the band was impressed by how much she changed the arrangement), wrote a different song for him and the rest of her crew, did skits together in her old myspace vlogs, etc. He was basically family to her, so she never thought that he'd ever sell her music to someone she's cried about to him. I guess there really are no friends in business.”

Oh hi again J. You also mentioned once to remind you to give Out of the Woods another chance. I I’ve mentioned previously her over produced album tracks are not her best versions (Folklore isn’t overproduced, but in general). Out of the Woods is a good example of that. She has many versions of the song, but the most contrasting and my opinion much better version is her a Grammy Museum performance on the piano. You still may not like the song, but the version is very raw and stripped down with a completely different vibe. Most of her songs are best that way. And as I mentioned, her best are usually not what is released as a single.... If you want to give it another try, the Grammy Museum performance of Out of the Woods is worth the watch even if you do not do a reaction video. Track 5s: The Archer live from BBC Live Lounge; Delicate; All Too Well live from the Grammy’s ( considered by all critics to be the best most iconic version, if people aren’t in the seats then it’s just the rehearsal), and Dear John are a few track 5’s.

But I'll add one more called All Too Well. It is considered by critics and fans to be Taylor's best song she has ever written, from a storytelling perspective. From the first line to the very end of the story, you can visualize in your mind exactly every scene she is describing in vivid detail. Its a track 5. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnOan6KDo8Z6hZo
