Sweet nicknames of couples that are made up can warm up others due to it having meaning to them. Snugglewaffles may not mean nothing to you, but probably meant a lot to someone who met at a waffle house, and using that memory as a nickname. Language isnt mean to be fixed, and isnt meant to be rigid. Its everchanging communications between humans. If thats what people understand "iconic" is then thats what it means, especially since this is not a formal setting where youre doing a power point presentation to your companys manager :)
