We all thought this was a break-up album about Joe and it ended up being mostly about Matty, I feel like Joe kind of deserves an apology because people were ready to just rip him to shreds. I feel really bad for Taylor. I have my own thoughts on Matty but the fact that this was such a HUGE relationship for her (she wouldn't have such an angry, lengthy album mostly about him if it wasn't) and it sounds like he probably was the one that ended it, and I think it was a lot more devastating for her behind the scenes than anyone realized. Especially when you listen to something like "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," where she talks about how depressed she is but the show must go on. I also feel like this album's anger is JUST AS MUCH directed at the fans (if not more) as it is directed at her heartbreak over Matty. People absolutely tore him and the relationship apart, she got so much backlash for dating him, and I get the sense (based on her lyrics and what we know of about the relationship) that he may have been the one who ended it because of the pressure and public scrutiny. The whole album feels to me like her telling us how she went into this relationship and it was passionate and intense and she was absolutely head over heels for him, but the pressures of being in the public eye ruined whatever chance the two of them had and she was angry and bitter about that for a while. Who wouldn't be? She lashes out in both "Who's Afraid" and "But Daddy I Love Him," she references her life in the public eye in both "Who's Afraid" and "The Albatross," and then you have her reflecting on her loneliness in "I Look in People's Windows" and "The Prophecy" and I can't even imagine how she continued to work and produce with all of those feelings and all of that going on behind the scenes. IMO, this is some of her best work. It's personal and it's raw. It's heartbreaking and it's heavy. And then you have those little hints of Travis. And I think "The Manuscript" was the perfect song to end on, because it feels like she's closing out that chapter and moving forward. (And maybe she expects fans to do the same?)

Majority of the album is her story of limerence that spans over the course of a decade with what she perceived to be her twin flame. She saw her shadow self within him and he was a huge catalyst for her. MH and Taylor’s chart have strong synastry. They definitely felt a pull to eachother from the moment they met and so many songs in previous albums were her pining over him, even while in a relationship with Joe. Yet, every time she would hold space for his darkness, he would run. This album was her story. If anyone has lived this dance, they felt this album deeply.

A Good Girl trying to save a lost boy, who was manipulative and emotionally abusive… It was a limerence, not love!! TTPD- It’s a great art but not a guidance. Can we expect her to guid though?? Don’t sometimes these two neutralize each other? Poetry is contemplating in its nature rather than moralistic. That’s what differentiates a poet from a Writer- the latter always subtly forms and sends a message… Poet explores different corners of humans heart, experiences the whole pallet of feelings and emotions and puts it in an intricate form… I think it’s important to see the difference between Taylor as an artist, her as an influencer and a real person. I think that’s a problem when people see her ,first and for most, as a social justice warrior and a role model because then she can’t make raw authentic art as an artist and doesn’t have the right to be a vulnerable imperfect, at times confused, human being…

Yeah although the ones about Joe are the most heartbreaking to me. The relationship just ended not even on bad terms it just ended… and like she wished he cheated or did something wrong so she could at least hate him but she can’t cus it just ran its course… which is gut wrenching when you realise what the background for the song was. I can’t imagine that after this year me and my bf just broke up after six years. I mean us two are literally talking rings and talking cradles… imagine just losing that and then finding yourself with that whole experience looking for something like that again and you desperatly jump into another relationship hoping you’d just resume where you were and not need to start from the beginning. Fortnight (the video) is a beautiful work of poetic storytelling. Everyone told her she was crazy to date Matty & to forget him. But little did they know those two have been writing love letter songs to each other since the release of her 1989 album as she reveals while they lay upon something very similar to 1989's iconic silhouette made of their many love letter songs since that time. Their connection is intimate beyond those words for just a moment in time, then the storm comes with it's whirlwinds that blow their decade's worth of loving confessions into the air. She confesses in this album that "Maroon" is about Matty. "The rust between telephones" makes more sense of the phone booth. He's claiming he can't reach her, but she's always there. She's always with him even when cold & isolated at the height of her fame. He need only come out of the box he's in to look up to find her & take her hand. She's telling a story of soul mates & think she very much wants her fans to get this story, because they played a role in ruining it for them both when they finally had their chance to be together. We see the fortnight. But she's showing us the forever that's always been in it.

I thought sure TTPD would be about Joe... even a mockery of Joe's pretentiousness or what Swiftologist defines as "heirloom Turkey". But I was astounded to discover it had very little to do with Joe. He didn't grow-up (Peter to her Wendy in "Cardigan" & "Peter"). She no longer thinks it's romantic ("Down Bad") to leave her "safe and stranded" as he had also done in 2014. She's heavily implying he used saving her career from the harm of his dark image as his excuse for breaking-up with/ghosting her last year. In reality, he wasn't man enough to take the pressure. He wasn't man enough to fight for her & his right to be by her side ("Smallest Man That Ever Lived"). As for morals, I think Taylor's trying to tell us Joe was the rebound. She's said the same of Calvin Harris (Midnight's "Question" is also about Matty). She wanted Matty to rise to the occasion & rescue her from Harris. Matty's side to that story was already revealed in his video for "Somebody Else" where he shows being in love with a blonde that's dating a typical Chad, who'd like a high school bully beat him up. And keep in mind, we live in a highly peer-pressured feminist culture that acts like something is wrong with you if you can't just get over someone & move on. Listening to their music, they tell their story. Watch The 1975's "Falling For You" video created 4 years ago. Note the parallels with Swift's "You Belong With Me" & "Lover" videos. They met in 2014 & it instant twin flame chemistry & love at first sight. But Maddy was self-aware enough to know he had battles with mental health & low self-esteem. He was afraid her massive career would drown out his fledgling career & that would create resentment. So, he was the right guy at the wrong time while they both kinda agreed that one day they'd be together. And, after 10 years, Taylor knew who she was gonna call when she got "fresh outta the slammer". They finally got their moment. The world raged & formed a cyclone around them. Matty couldn't handle it while Taylor was fully prepared to let it all burn down for him. And I think she wants people to get this, because the fans that became the cyclone didn't understand what their winds were blowing to shreds.

My take of this music video is the song is about both loves lost. She starts the music video in a wedding dress(referencing where she thought her relationship would go with Joe) then she takes the “forget him” pill her way of saying she’s moving on and coping with her already broken heart. Cut to the transition to the tortured poets room and she’s in the black dress like she’s a widow going to a funeral (represents her still mourning her and joes relationship). In this room is file cabinets, that look similar to the files from the pop up in LA symbolizing her and joes relationship is still there and the pain is still there but she’s now a tourtured poet the same way Matty is and that’s what brought them together even more (they may have always had a connection but this is there first time being able to pursue it) and you see that when the glow from both the typewritters combine and your transformed into there very short love story. So she tried to move on and heal but later discovered that’s not what she needed either and now she has all these files in the tortured poets department on top of the heartbreak of this fortnight love Of course there’s so much more I could reference but at its core this music video is about the pain of losing a long love while trying to move on and that not working out either

The more I hear about Matty, the more I see a bunch of red flags, and some of those things are crimes in my country. You know some of the songs in 1975 Album are parallel to TTPD. TTPD was clearly a giveaway album so that you can find clues in other songs it is intertwined to some of other composition of albums that T.S. writes.
