I'm a 67yo Taylor Swift mom fan and I absolutely LOVE this song!!! Not only because I know about Taylor because of my two daughters, but because Taylor has a way of bringing me back. None of us girls had anywhere near the courage to say what Taylor so eloquently expresses in her songs. We had Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". As generic as it was, it literally was the ONLY song that expressed what so many of us were feeling. And that's why it's iconic and widely known to this day. Throughout the years, there have been a few female artists that had success with recording empowering songs. Shania Twain did it with "Man! I Feel Like a Woman", Carrie Underwood was badass with "Before He Cheats" and Beyonce cut off some balls with several of her songs. I admire and respect the talent of all these women, as well as others I didn't mention. I applaud their guts and courage to push the envelope. But it's clear to me that no other female artist has been as successful as Taylor Swift in writing songs of female empowerment so masterfully that millions of people across the world are, not only moved by it, but are able to recite all the words. That is utterly remarkable!!! It's not only Taylor's talent as a musical lyricist that's impressive, her courage to be able to be so continuously vulnerable and put her feelings into songs for the world to see and judge, is so incredibly courageous. I'm sure there's a reason for it. It's organic. She was born to do this and that's why it works so well. The joy she gives out to us all feeds her with joy. I've been so fortunate to have lived during the extremely musically rich eras of the 60s, 70s and 80s. There was a major void during the 90s up until Taylor Swift. I feel even more fortunate to still be around to experience the phenomenon that is Taylor Swift.
