Very similar upbringing as Taylor, grew up in a pretty chill church, other churches I've been invited to were the same, never had to speak in tongues or condemn nonbelievers, but I started hearing churches talk about money more and more as I got older and it just put a bad taste in my mouth that I was over it all, I've dated atheists and people from other religious backgrounds and just realized people have different methods of preferred therapy, whether it's mental, physical, spiritual and/or any combination of the rest, we don't have to agree on what method of therapy is better or is right, we just need to respect that that's what they believe is best suited for themselves

@Bloodbath Yeah, a couple of times. I always tried to hear them out and understand why they felt the way they did. Both times, they had a very unpleasant experience with a church or church member. I never try to argue/defend against what they went thru bc I would feel the same way if I went thru that. Just focus on the present and if it's that big of an issue, I would ask why bc it's a part of who you are, just like their past and background shaped who they are today. If they still can't get passed that, I would leave, learn what may have triggered that and find someone who focuses on the important things

Wow, everything she's describing about her church is the same thing I've seen happen myself. The pastor when I was kid was CONSTANTLY begging for money for land that he was "shown" to buy. He literally called it "The Promised Land". He conned an old blind woman out of her life savings to help pay for it, the whole time he was living in a house that the church bought for him. Fun fact, the guy still lives in the house, even though he's no longer a pastor. Another fun fact, he's now a real estate agent. Oh, and the old blind woman is dead, he took her money, bought the land, and it's now mostly overgrown with weeds after they built nothing but a GYMNASIUM AND A SOCCER FIELD on the land for the "church".
