In defence of this knife, yes, it is finished as roughly as a badger's backside. However, a few minutes with some finishing paper and a dab of wood oil and you can smooth out the handle and chamfer any of the metal edges that bite. It's a bit of mass-produced history, built to good enough tolerances - like an Opinel, K55K or T-34

I think Lee White makes absolute works of art. That being said, I really like this budget version being a little rougher around the edges. It's something I wouldn't mind throwing in my pocket and putting to work. Cheers.

These are very much their budget knives. £30, but they’re still made by Lee White. He knocks these out at 90-100 a day! I sat and polished mine and it came out great! Mind you, mine was nicer than this one! Also, they don’t usually come in that box, but a clear plastic box with a coloured leaflet. I think the Taylor’s budget knives are the best ‘rough users’ around. This is the most expensive of their budget range that starts around £15... those really are bargains!

I know they can be rough because I purchased a basic lambsfoot a year ago, and it had just about everything wrong with it that there can be and still function as a knife. But I finally bit the bullet, bought the Barlow and waited to see what appeared. Well, it's almost perfect. No gaps anywhere, level spring, great finish to the metalwork, perfect blade centering, and a nice even cutting edge. It has the snap of a crocodile, but I was expecting that. A kid could never open it. Minus points? The cutting edge needed a strop bring it to sharpness. The rosewood? covers, although nicely matched, needed a light sand and mineral oil to feel smooth. And the edges of the channel that hold the blade, while again usable, benefitted from having the edges smoothed with an emery emery cloth. Have I been lucky? I have a faultless handmade knife that will likely outlast me, for £32 delivered. And just a heads up. Farrar and Tanner no longer sell these knives in the 'Premier Collection' boxes which was a dissapointment. But the knives do have the makers stamps on the blade and bolster. I've seen some without.

I have a few of their high end knives and also bought one of these for daily carry. For the £30 I paid I think it’s excellent. Fit and finish is similar to yours. not as good as the expensive ones, but for a handmade British knife that’s still decent quality I think it’s hard to beat.

I received mine in the USA from James and Company. Let's just say that his customer service and response time is second to none. ...rare these days. I highly recommend this vendor. (I'm going to repeat this in a few videos because I believe he deserves it)

There was a batch of these on sale on Amazon UK last month for just under 24 quid. No top quality 'Premiere' box though. Stamped logo is great. Not sure they needed to stamp it three times 😄

I got one of these when they were on Amazon ,me personally I’m not bothered by the poor finish so long as the knife does what it’s supposed to but what does bother me is why do they have to make the spring so strong rending it (for me anyway) virtually unusable.

I have two 'top-end' TEW Lee White Barlows. That bit of daylight where the open blade meets the backspring is present in both of them. Allow me to ask a provocative question: Politics aside, if this knife, identical in all respects apart from the branding, were bought for the same price on AliExpress from some nondescript maker, would your evaluation remain the same?

If the name brand wasn't there then I would expect it to be a little cheaper honestly, but overall it'd likely be similar, check out my tomahawk lambfoot review, similar style, chinese made with some issues and I liked it.

Straight out of the box it looks like a knife designed for a lifetime of work. It looks like a dremel job is needed on the back of the tang.

wow mate i love you and i love your channel but that thing is horrible! there is littarly splinters sticking out of the handle thats how rough the finish is. fit and finish makes emerson look like shirogorov... i woulnd pay 10 bucks that that thing if my life depended on it!

It's a tool knife, not a safe-queen. Yes, I tarted mine up with some Danish Oil and some sanding. Then again, if I had not, it would not have been "my" work knife to suit my needs. So no problem there. A great piece of kit and, thanks to Farrar and Tanner, engraved with my name.

I get it’s a knife you could lose and it wouldn’t be the end of the world.... my issue is.... if you normally put out high quality, great craftsmanship prices of cutlery. Made with heritage and pride.... How could you let this walk out the door with so many sub standard issues. I think you were overly kind on this one. The spring meeting the blade spine is shocking. Again I see it’s place but not from this maker...

It's a shame that knives made in Sheffield need work to make them acceptable, and that back spring is just silly, stop turning out the same crxxp and wake up there's a big market out there.

I've just got this knife and without a doubt it's the worst in my collection, there's no brass liner's, the fit and finish is rubbish, it takes a ton of pull to open it, I'm trying to think of a good point but can't, it's not even cheap, I will keep hold of it as a benchmark of crap!!
