The “table” is the bargaining table when two sides come to work out some mutually beneficial agreement. Therefore the table is literally nothing, it is what each party has of value to bargain with. In terms of dating and relationships we all know that women look for men to bring financial stability and high social status to the table. In previous generations, the women offered purity, children, and homemaker skills. I thought that after marriage the respect of my wife was automatic- the way she assumes my love to be. Not the case at all and the marriage got better when I quit trying to do everything to make her happy. They always say “nothing sexier than a man doing dishes” and they believe it. But really down deep it’s not true even if they don’t realize it and when I relegated myself to “doing only the man jobs” and left the “woman’s jobs” to her and the kids everything got much better.
