I don’t think I agree! She said the MAC artist had a red smokey eye on herself so how could she have messed up a burgundy smokey eye? She should have definitely restarted but looking at how she applied the whole face of makeup makes me think she doesn’t know how to apply make up on clients. I’m speaking from my own experience as a makeup artist and as someone whose had their makeup done by others as well. This person didn’t seem like she had much experience with clients.

I taught makeup artistry in a college and every student (even though they had been taught the theory) would always end up with the finished face slightly different. There is a reason it is called Makeup Artistry. With experience, the artist adds to their application technique and hopefully excels. Even after 30+ years of doing makeup I screw up and have eyeshadow fallout under the eye. So I just clean up and redo areas that need it. Being able to clean up errors is an important part of makeup application.

pinkabuki I work for MAC and I think the reason for that was to color correct! At my initial training with MAC they recommended their artists use certain concealer shades as color corrector based on the color of the dark circles (yellow counteracts purple, etc) that the client has. That’s probably why it was 3 shades too dark and a yellow undertone. It looked like she covered it up with the correct shade later😊

Mac should pay for their people to be trained properly if they are going to charge that much!
@JPMJPM5 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard MAC makeup artists go through quite a bit of training.
@Stephanie.Perez325 жыл бұрын
Mac employees do not go through training that’s a lie. They go to updates on new products about two or three times a year but no one is trained. They learn by experience and working on so many different faces. I worked for Mac for two years and when you first start working there it really humbles you. I thought I did very good makeup but in comparison to the artists who have been there for 4 years + I was not one bit good. Only using Mac products you learn to make what you use work. I bet you anything the artist she got was new. She asked a lot of questions before starting. Most artist who have been with Mac for years just ask what do you want done and what’s your skin like. They do whatever they want because it’s second nature to them
@annikasenebald11775 жыл бұрын
@@Stephanie.Perez32 I work at MAC. I live in Canada so I don't know if it's different in the states. When you first get hired you do 4 days of training from 9-5 and each artist needs to receive a certification in order to do appointments. The company does pay for us to get trained!!! It's just a shame the artist was nervous or didn't know how to fix her mistakes.
@Stephanie.Perez325 жыл бұрын
Annika van Dooremalen it works exactly the same here in the states. You go to basic training for 5 days where they talk about the products and customer service. They don’t teach you how to do makeup. You get a trainer who comes in like once or twice a month who test you on makeup in 30, makeup in an hour, advanced one and two but this is all in a span of two or three years. You don’t get trained on how to do makeup by anyone. You just learn from other artists by watching and by actually practicing and doing makeup on a multitude of people. When I started at Mac literally my first day I had a makeup appointment. I was with the company for two years and my craft is no where near as good as the artist who have been there for 5 years plus. And I can testify that all the artists i worked with are the same. They have been with the company for a year or so and they do not do good makeup I’m sorry to say. It takes time it won’t happen over night. Anyone who works at Mac can testify to that. It’s a big misconception that Mac artists are trained to do good makeup by the company. Two new hires just came back from basic training a few days ago and they do the same bad makeup they did before they went to basic training. You learn nothing there just the history of the company, SOME product knowledge, customer service and you have a few minutes at the end of each day to play with makeup.

@hollyobaby69495 жыл бұрын
Nicole S on the lower cheek/jawline and/or neck yes. You’d just wipe it off & wait a moment to let the makeup remover dry off while you talked to your client about what they were looking for. It would have been a good time to ask if she wanted/what her comfort level was with lashes tbh. Then get to priming. When she forgot to prime the eyes she shot herself in the foot unfortunately. Also I think she may have used a shimmer or satin in the crease which I sincerely do not recommend. Bh cosmetics makes great (I mean GREAT) wildly affordable mattes. If you’re a beginner pull the trigger on a palette from them. Also they have very cheap lashes that I love and reuse (remember to trim to your eye so it doesn’t get wonky). Sorry if that was very wordy, but seriously you can just use whatever concealer to prime your lids and set it with like Rimmel stay matte powder or any nude eyeshadow. Then stick to mattes for crease colors & smoking out the under eyes. It’ll make sense once you mess around with it

Ty Getting a shitty pay is not an excuse to do a shitty job, especially when you’re supposed to be representing a prestigious global brand. The artist was hired and trusted to do a good job, and she completely blew it. Taylor payed $60 out of her pocket, and an hour and a half of her time. Her job was to sit still and not be a difficult client, she kept her end of the deal. Gotta love excuses...

Nicole Somerville I know I’m so sad for it, but we all see what’s in front of us. I’ll agree with everyone that she knew how to choose colors. Would have been so cool super smoked out & with more mattes. Her cream bronzer was impeccable & her blush choice for the look was so perfect. It needed lashes I’ll be honest when I get my makeup done I’ve always had the option to buy lashes. I think the skin looked great & her color choices were on point for her eyes she just lost control of the eyes and the lip color was super random

I appreciate so much your kindess and your attempt to understand the sort of "pressure" she was going through. Personally, I think she made a lot of mistakes, starting from the concealer, as you said the shade was too dark and i thought that maybe she could have tried it out before putting it on you just like that, then she switched the foundations, which was nice, but wow she wiped them off without reapplying the primer lol. The colors she chose were so nice, but then again, she didn't apply any primer and that caused the issue with the application and the creasing of the eyeshadows. Also, she kept going back and forth with them, going OMG SO FAR, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO GO PLS STOP. She tried to do, I don't know, something, without an eye primer, without a cut crease, without enough blending. She didn't ask if you were ok with the mascara or if you would have liked to apply the falsies (which I think could have saved a little bit the eye look situation). She did just fine with the bronzer, blush and highlighter tho, at least those. Well, basically you threw 60$ away in my personal opinion ahahah. I loved the idea of the video tho, really interesting, and despite what she did on you, you always look gorgeous. ❤️

Aight I’m going to say all the positive things that this girl did since I feel for her & think she got nervous as you worked at MAC & she was being filmed.... 1) she chose eye colors that were sincerely the right choice for your color of crystal blue eyes (good sense of color & which colors makes certain eyes pop) 2) I liked the primer she used on your skin I think it was a smart/safe choice 3) her cream bronzer skills (why are we not talking about how great that looked?? & it is not a walk in the park to do that so well) 4) her choice of blush for the look was the absolute best choice 5) the choice of highlighter & the way she chose to apply it was beautiful 6) at least she was sanitary with that mascara (I’m not kidding I’ve seen some shit) 7) she tried her best to fix the eyes & probably knew she screwed up by not priming but her nerves got the best of her understandably 8) she was personable & that’s great 9) I liked that she didn’t over conceal or over chisel the face like some girls do (I’m looking at you Boston) 10) the inner corner highlight was the perfect amount of highlight for my taste (just for me personally-not everyone’s the same). 11) I think she saw that Taylor’s brows were microbladed to her taste so she kept it simple which I think is the right choice because we all agree harsh brows are out right? Or am I wrong? Idk Here’s where she could have just done a little better in my own opinion... (keep in mind I’ve been wrong plenty times in my life so if you agree/disagree with any of this totally comment because I like other opinions tbh since I do some freelance & it’s all just free advice for me!) 1) she should have checked the foundation color on your jawline beforehand. After she removed it & before she primed your skin would have been a good time to ask what kind of skin you have (combo, sensitive, etc) & honesty this would have been the time I asked how comfortable you were with lashes & tried to sell you at least on a dainty pair because they step up any look 2) we all said it....she didn’t prime the lid. I think she knew but was too shook up to start over even though Taylor probably would have either commended her for that or cut the footage because she’s so dang nice 3) I *think* she chose a satin or shimmer for the crease and I died inside a little 4) more mattes would have made this look an awesome grunge look 5) if she was going grunge she should have just committed & smoked out that bottom lash line to all hell 6) why not do a black waterline or something to make things more bold? You said go all out! 7) why tf did she not wait to do the lower lash stuff until after your base was on & set? Very confusing to me. 8) a neutral or cool toned nude lip color is the only think that makes sense to me for this color palette. Maybe I’m boring or unoriginal though. Just..not pink? Why pink? Why? 9) goddamn lashes would have helped save the look like come on...lashes! 10) why didn’t she bring the foundation down the neck? Or set with studio fix pressed powder (great coverage for a powder imo) & like try and buff it down the neck to salvage the look a little *All of that being said I would be shaking in my fuckin boots knowing not only a former MAC employee was in my chair (which...each girl knows how they like their makeup it’s totally inevitable) but not only that a beauty influencer! I would have probably backed out because I know how shook I’d be. Literally shook as I’m shaky hands Holly over here. The fact that she took so long proves that she really was trying to work the damn thing out. She probably got some shit from her manager or something bc lord knows they were probably glancing over their shoulder the whole time. Also she knew she fucked up the eyes & it was clear as she kept trying to touch them up. Forgetting the paint pot & not even offering lashes was probably nerves (like for sure). But let’s not forget she made GREAT color choices in every sense so she is worthy of being a makeup artist without a doubt. She just fumbled this one. Most of us woulda.* Oh & I’m wondering if the reason the shadow was kind of skipping & patchy was because they sanitize with alcohol spray & it can dry out the presses powders a lot over time. Like Taylor said...you have to work with what you have at these places. If you read all of this god bless you have a wonderful day you deserve it

ss most professionals have been using some sort of a base on their eyes for a very long time that’s why professional eye makeup has always looked pretty good, I look back at everyone I knew and how their eyeshadow used to look years ago before everyone knew about eyeprimer and it all looks horrible and creases. I am a FIRM believer in eye primer. If your doing a simple look without much product at all you maybe could get away with no primer but something dark or Smokey or heavy or colorful really really needs a primer

@beccahochanadel39075 жыл бұрын
Alana Burnet maybe that’s just the people you’ve worked with then, because everything I’ve seen or learned going to school for makeup was that professionals usually apply some sort of a product below the eyeshadow. It doesn’t have to be labeled “eyeshadow primer” because back then that didn’t even exist. I’ve read they used all sorts of things underneath to make the shadow hold better like concealer, foundation, or even just glycerin! But it all depends on the artist. I’m sure some professionals don’t use a base but a lot do and a lot of them have for a long time
