I am transforming my 125 aquarium into a Tanganyikan setup, and this new 3D background and rocks from Universal Rocks really helps complete the look.

Good move on tacking it in place. Water pressure will not hold your background in place as there will be tank water both in front of and behind the background so water pressure in front and behind will be equal. So no more force pushing back than forward.

I was going to say the same thing. If water gets in back the pressure is equalized.

Not correct. The amount of water on the front will be far greater than the 1/4’ish inch water at the back, once he start draining the water. You’re theory only applies if both water volumes are the same on both sides 😊. Water pressure is exerted on all sides of an object if the object is completely under water. The pressure exerted horizontally on the sides cancel each other out. The pressure exerted at the front is greater than that exerted at the back, once part of the object is above water (e.g. water changing) pressure increases on the front, due to the amount (thus weight) of water between front and back. So the background will flip forwards. So, indeed good move for tacking.

Great video! I like this slower, more vlog - style pace. Does stacking the porous lava rock in front of the sponge filters increase the mechanical filtration at all? Does pulling water around/through all those crevices help filter particles before they get to the coarse sponge?

Thanks! As far as the rocks, I don’t think it would enough to make much of a difference. It will probably be a flake food magnet that I hope the fish will keep clean. 😆

Some pretty cool aquariums you have set up I'm working on setting up a 2nd 75 gal tank & just raise aquatic plant's & go from there. My 1st 75 I have some Danio's & albino Cory cats in a planted aquarium with java ferns & octopus plant's, amazon swords, jungle Val, tiger lily + more. My Corie's have had eggs but not into hatching so I just let them be.

In small tank, for removing gravel and soil, not sand, I use a catliter shovel, for aquarium only. The water will drain out throug the slidths.😊

I have been thinking of getting one of these backgrounds...I would imagine the process of gluing it in place would be a lot easier if you roller the aquarium on its back...assuming have the space and bench to do so. Then you could weigh it down in a few spots rather than trying to wedge it in.

Looks good. Personally the rocks are placed a little to uniformly. Buch them a little more or more detail somehow. Buy don't know if that's how u are KEEPING it

I don't want to sound like "that guy" but water pressure only holds something in place if there is a pressure differential. Because the background allows water to get behind it, there will actually be an equal amount of water pressure back there as there is in front of it (water pressure is based on depth alone, not proximity to a vertical barrier). So unfortunately water pressure wont be a factor holding the background in place when the tank is full any more than air pressure would hold it in place when the tank was drained.
@TazawaTanks

Yep...I realized that right before I started filling. Only tacked it in 3-4 spots with a dab of silicone. So far it's holding great. Thanks for the explanation..."that guy"! LOL

@@adammason4454 yes i like black backgrounds for a number of reasons #1 i hate algae its easier to clean a flat smooth surface #2 the fish contrast better against a black background #3 most of those 3d backgrounds stick out too much from the back i like the background to b flat

I had always heard Cory say that all his universal rock backgrounds had come in with uneven edges and footprints. This video gave me hope so purchased a flat sheet, but unfortunately Cory was correct. There’s some rips in the edges, tiny holes throughout where the plastic is thinner, and footprints all over that don’t seem to want to come off. Hopefully I can strategically place filters, heaters, and plants to hide all the defects. Not sure if yours came in so nicely because they are custom or because they knew you would be showing it on your channel, but wanted to make sure you knew that, at least the flat sheets, still have major issues.

All three of mine were fine (including one a I bought a long time ago when I was a very small channel). I would suggest reaching out to them. Sorry to read that you have had issues. 🙁

No, I’m not worried about fish knocking them over, as they would be too heavy for most fish. You could always silicone the rock to the bottom if needed.
