Fun fact, the Chau-Chat was the most produced automatic weapon in WW1 in terms of raw numbers. It was fielded in almost every front in Europe including Russia and the Balkans.

Every gun jammed in Trench combat Eventually, it wasn’t just the Chauchat that suffered Jamming problems. It was a decent gun for its time, so stop hating on the poor thing. Personally its the thing about him and his channel that I find the most annoying. In WW1, the BAR was considered more of a rifle than a machine gun. This is because it was used more handheld than in a mounted position. It was only after WW1, in WW2 and Korea that it became a LMG since the carrying handle and bipod became the standard issued variant.

It was designed to walk firing from the hip. The idea was that some guys walk towards the enemy shooting full auto, covering the rest of their guys. It was never used in that context because the war ended soon after and then repurposed to a support automatic gun. That's why it is weird and don't fit any category pretty good

"CHO-CHO" is ranked too low. It kills in 3 bullets up close (~20 meters). Marksman scope/ sharp needle ironsight for medium range and bipod for long ranges. Slow fire rate also helps maintain accuracy. I've been accumulating service stars with it. Mr. TBAG, I'm not here to argue, I know that list is your personal preference. My thoughts on each LMG: Benet-Mercie: Meh, nothing really too special if you ask me in terms of gameplay Huot Automatic: Works pretty well for a more aggressive playstyle Chauchat: My personal favorite in terms of small mag LMGs Madsen MG: Rarely ever used it. I started to try it out now but that mag is a (literal) killer M1917 MG: My go-to LMG for maps like Sinai Perino: Really good LMG all around. It's like a Huot on steriods Lewis Gun: Though I don't use it much, It's pretty decent MG15: The storm variant is perfect for an aggressive playstyle lMG 08/18: My absolute favorite LMG in BF1. Perfect for pretty much any situation or map. BAR: I found it's best to be used if you're either not focusing on ammo detail or if you're trying to help out a tanker Parabellum: It's ok, but the recoil is a massive dealbreaker since I feel like I'm trying to hold an active model rocket with a vibrator attached to it

The chauchet was literally ranked as one of the worst machine guns in history and even the French replaced there own gun in WW1 which makes me laugh because they made the gun then replaced it with the Browning 1903 so yea

It was only considered truly awful by American soldiers because they wanted and used a retooled version that didn't use French 8mm. This American version jammed because it wasn't meant for the ammo and the doctrine was very poor. The French had considered it good and they replaced their heavy MG with the Browning because the real Browning, unlike the one in the game, is way too obscenely heavy to actually carry around with you. Ian at Forgotten Weapons does lots of tests with the Chauchat and it's not an awful gun by any stretch. Yes, magazines are fragile, and it does fire slow, but it isn't a piece of glass that can't shoot straight

The weapon wasn’t truly the worst, it was a decent and effective design for the time, even the US had used it, the problem about the weapon was the magazines, the large holes in the mag made it extremely easy for dirt and mud to get into the mag, causing magazine failures. Yes, compared to other LMG’s the chouchat is pretty bad, but the problems around the gun was from its poorly designed Mags, which unfortunately made the Stigma that the gun is awful

The chauchat for anyone who knows about history, (Outside of BF1) knows it was complete opposite irl. It was horrible, mud got in it very often. Even when it was clean jamming was a serious problem. Inaccurate sights, bad bipods. Soldiers used to trash them and use other guns

planet earth at 2am even before, it was terrible for its use in the western front. The open magazine could be jammed with dirt and mud, and it jams easily, with gunners having to reload only 19 or 18 rounds to alleviate this. Also its sights aren’t very accurate, with shots going off to the low right. It isn’t as bad as most people say it is, but it’s still bad. That being said, it’s also said to be the most produced machine gun of the war.

For this long time gamer, it really depends on 3 things: #1 - the map (tight/close or wide open) and #2 - your play style as a Support (defensive offering suppressive lead or up with the Assaults keeping them supplied with ammo) and #3 - your aiming ability (accurate pin point or a bit of spray). My fav's are The Lewis Low weight, Chauchat and Burton LMR depending on what my team needs and what the map dictates. Rock on gamers.

This is just IMO: the Benet Mercie Storm is complete garbage, you got me there. But slap a tripod on that bad boy, add a scope, and you have the deadliest machine gun in the entire game! I've literally killed PLANES with this gun, it's that accurate. I entered a sniper duel with this Telescopic machine gun, and I walked away victorious. 200 warbonds well spent, IMO. ...That being said, having only 30 bullets is a serious hindrance in close-quarters combat. It can't hip fire to save its life, so I mainly use it from a distance as a suppression weapon. Generally speaking, all of these guns have some advantage, but the Benet Mercie Telescopic is definitely my favorite. Just sayin'.

No contest, this gun is supposed to he a tripod scope gun. I've been recently using it in city maps to shoot down streets and it still works like a charm. Just get a good sidearm and melee weapon for close range, with people running around with assault close range body melters and one shot killers support class has issues in close combat anyway.

Man, we must have very different playstyles with LMG's. I'd say The Chauchat is either my favorite or second favorite, along with the MG 1917 (Telescopic). I used to love the MG15 n.A., but once I unlocked the MG 1917, no other "heavy" LMG could compare as a long-range, heavy weapon. It seemed like the IMG 08/18 and Parabellum were just less effective versions of the MG 1917. On a side note, this video made me want to start using the BAR again, because I had a lot of fun with it when I first started using it.

I can see where you’re, coming from, but I disagree with most of your list. I think the slower rpm, accurate lmgs are really not appreciated in this list. Guns like the huot and perino are fantastic on maps with long sight lines where you can hit nearly all your shots from range. My favourite is the m1917 due to a good mix of accuracy and rpm with a huge mag. It works like a charm on maps like Galicia. However, I can see that you would prefer the high rpm higher recoil guns like the parabellum in Amiens and other close-mid range maps. I may be biased, as I pretty much only play operations though, where accurate ranged lmgs work well for my play style. EDIT: I forgot to really mention your play style. Different people prefer different things, and prefer to play in different situations. Lots of the top guns really seem to fit into the run-and-gun style, which may be what you prefer.

I agree. For some reason, I just play better with the slower firing LMG. Maybe it's purely a reflection of how they're easier to control but I just shred with the M1917 or the Madsen but struggle with the Parabellum or even the BAR, especially at longer ranges.

Rory S as a CQB mainly player/aggressive play style i mostly use the bar, chachout or however you spell it and madsen, other slower rpm but accurate lmgs aren't great at CQB but that's just balance

I agree. Huot Automatic is actually pretty nice. Accuracy of this gun is the key to success. It's not like a best CQC choice of weapon (however you can still kill enemies just fine in CQC), but where it shines is medium and slightly longer ranges. Pretty much only the reload time is bad in this gun. . Chauchat (for compare) isn't that great. For sure it has a punch per shot, but slower firerate and 20 rounds mags makes it quite useless in pretty most situations and ranges. In fun fact, the damage (compare to Huot) makes only difference in CQC, but at medium and longer ranges pretty much means almost nothing.

I’m wondering if they changed the benet mercie since this video cause I just got into bf1 and the storm variant of this thing is incredibly accurate out to borderline insane distances. It may not have the best ttk up close, but it can still shred if you have good reflexes. And, unlike most other guns, you can count on the vast majority of your shots landing even at long range.

it's always been good for that, and very accurate, but the shit ammo count and dooky close range performance is meh. Chauchat is basically a better version in every way outside of ammo count. The madsen is another one of these small mag LMG's that is just flat out statistically better, and the bar puts them, all to shame. Something about using the benet mercie is super satisfying tho

Browning M1917 MG is my favorite, especially the scoped version. Probably because I’m more passive and like to stay back further and engage the enemy before they see me, but it should have been higher. 250 rounds before reloading is unmatched plus it’s accurate, not a lot of recoil, and the second highest damage of all LMG. It’s not great without the bipod and the bullets don’t travel all that fast, but if you know how to lead moving targets right then it’s deadly with bipod. Easily my favorite, especially from long range. But closer range like example on the last sector at Verdun (operations) I probably use the Chauchat because of high damage or MG15... I don’t like the BAR. Only 20 rounds and the recoil is kind of annoying plus I don’t think the damage is very good. I like the Parabellum, but the side to side recoil it has us pretty difficult so probably wouldn’t have it #1 like you

Troy Mathis I agree, the M1917 MG and Chauchat are my two favorite LMG's. But I think you should give the BAR some more credit. Yes, the magazine size is a major negative, but on maps like Argonne Forest, I've gotten kills with the BAR that I had no business getting.

The key difference is that with the BAR, you need to play it like an assault rifle rather than an LMG. If you're putting all your shots on target, you can absolutely shred your enemies.

Perino is even better, more accurate and a really fast almost unorthodox reload speed for such an accurate gun. It doesn't overheat that fast and shreds people at long range. I had a DM game recently, where I accidentally slid between two of the wagons that face the hillside on Rupture. I bipodded the Perino on the wagon magnets and fired at everything that moved in the hills for half the game. It was amazing. Personally, the Parabellum has to be my favorite though, the recoil is managable at short to medium ranges (it is absolute trash at long range though, even when tap firing), this gun is great for many situations, you can hipfire well with it in cqb and the ammo count is also great.

I think the thing that hurts the merci and the hout, was the TTK update that made it so the lmg’s recoil was more severe at the start and with only 26 and 30 rounds it really hurts with the starting added recoil.

The Benet-Mercie is an absolutely top tier LMG if you're aiming for accuracy at a distance. The telescopic variant has been my go-to for any kind of long-range battle because it's SO DAMN ACCURATE at range.

I do too, if you're using the telescopic without a bipod the bullet deviation while holding ADS can be painful. The key to using this baby on the move is to tap fire, the first shot is accurate but after that bullet deviation kicks in. If you give the gun enough time for that "first shot" to reset (about 1/2 to 3/4 a second between shots) then it's pretty accurate at mid to long range especially. In other words treat the gun like a scoped semi auto rifle (think medic class) instead of a machine gun.

Still the Chauchat is my favorite LMG, Its like a laser at long ranges while bipoded, its hands down the best anti-sniper LMG if you can get used to the recoil so your not always prone or looking for the perfect cover, theres even a bit of recoil control to be learned while bipoded. I actually hardly used it for like 2 years until I saw Matti-Ace reking with it so I gave it a second chance, once you get the recoil under a bit of control its fun side starts shining almost the point of blindness!

The Perino is amazing, it's one of the only MG's which allow for partial loading, so you can reload just 1 strip (of 20 bullets), and continue firing. For me, that is a killer feature. Literally. And it also seems to be very effective against bombers, much more than other MG's.
