Nicely done! Euphonium/baritone are my main instraments, have been for over 7 years. I would love to be in The Ohio State Marching band at some point in the next few years(freshman at an Illinois community college currently)

I marched UCLA and three years of drum corps. While we operated completely differently, this brings back fond memories of the amount of fun we had in front of huge crowds and the lifelong friendships built through the commonality of being in the marching band. I just played The French National Defile March (sound l;ike the same tune you play while spelling out Ohio) in a wind ensemble.

I used too work at the drake which is next too Lincoln and Merrill towers and they were out in the parking lot ay6 in the morning then at lunch they were practing on the practice 50 yard field

Do you do some of these moves by dead reckoning ("take three steps right") or do you use the gridiron markings, or both? Did you know that football fields were once marked off in five-yard squares? That's where the term 'gridiron' comes from (the field was also 110 yards long with a 55-yard line at midfield, but no endzone).

“Deadreckoning” but its more so muscle memory of 8-5, 12-5, 16-5, and 6-5 thats tested in tryouts

Around 10 hours of class time a week, and quite a few more to memorize music!

@@benprochaska8118 Since you were so kind in answering my prior question can I toss out another dumb question? I notice that when the band has marched downfield at pregame there is always a large group of band members lined up on the side lines. Are they reserve members or what? Oh yeah, one more, how does the ends of the percussion lines know to take the side steps in when the band is making their entrance on the field. I’m just impressed by the precision of the field entry. Promise not to come up with more dumb questions.

@@genepatterson4375 those are alternates, yes. The percussion just counts the number of sets until it is clear!
