It is insane to think of Shavdatuashvili going to a fourth Olympic Games with a very real possibility of getting a fourth medal. I enjoyed following his career ever since he burst onto the scene winning gold in London Games 2012. I see a pattern of him being off form outside of the Olympic cycle but he wins a lot of his medals on the tour in the run up to the Olympics when it seems he trains extra hard. I always liked following his judo because he seems like a very ordinary guy, no extra special talent, but whose hard work puts him above the naturally talented and gifted. A great example for all who aspire to do well in any sport.

His judo is also very versatile. He also seems to really go with the flow of how his opponents move and adjusts his judo for the occasion.

@@marconopolo5723 I agree. He seems to enjoy and specialize in counters which allows the opponent considerable freedom to attack.

I love how Ono had ambitions of 4 olympic golds but after the second gold he gave up on that dream even though he won in the final against Shavdatuashvili. Makes me think he got scared of next time. 😂

@@HantonSacu For me the real difference between Ono and Shavdatuashvili is that Ono was very selective in the competitions he participated in because it seems he wanted to preserve his winning streak with a minimum amount of losses. Shavdatuashvili, on the other hand, until recently, went to every competition possible. This exposed him to a lot more losses due to dips in form and emerging talents taking him by surprise. I would say that Shavdatuashvili loves participating in the sport of Judo and winning is an important element of that but not the whole picture by any means. Ono on the other hand, seems to take pride in being a master of the art of judo and possibly does not find it quite so enjoyable and liberating as our Georgian friend does. This is just what I personally observe from both their demeanors on the mat. I will be excited to watch the Paris Olympics to see if Shavdatuashvile gets a fourth medal. That will be absolutely crazy. He currently looks on form to do that.

Is it really okuri-eri-jime at 5:45 ? Does okuri not mean „both“ so technically it‘s just eri-jime? Just interested

I think okuri is normally translated as to slide (or to send off). So sliding lapel choke or sliding foot sweep.

Yes it is okuri eri jime. She starts osaekomi yoko shiho gatame probably and she adjusted it on okuri eri jime very good and she got ippon quickly.

Hi. What's your impression on russians still being in? Do you like it, do you support them?

Why aren't you saying the same about the Israeli athlete's?

Do you really think a person who lives by judo code would discriminate a russian athlete because of a war they didn't start or participate in? Of course he is okay with it
