WHO AM I?
Hello friends, my name is Femke! I am a nineteen year old reader from Belgium who really loves to talk about books. My first language is Dutch, but I highly prefer to read English literature. I am a second year university student in Antwerp and study English, theatre, film and literature. My goal for this channel is to create a safe space for all kinds of readers to talk about what we love most! @@femsfables Thank you very much for your wonderful response. I believe it's a story worth reading. Personally, I enjoyed the novel "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks. However, I read it in Arabic and haven't watched the movie adaptation. I have a question for you: Do you agree with the societal values in the novel "Persuasion" regarding marriage and social status? Why or why not? And what are the most important qualities you look for in an ideal life partner? Are money and social status among these qualities? Thank you. ❤️

@Ambassadooor2035 I have never read The Notebook, but I have seen the film many times and absolutely love it, even though it is so bittersweet! Thank you for your questions! I’ll try to answer them as best as I can: Personally, I don’t agree with the idea represented in the novel that you should marry someone for their money / job / social status. However, during Austen’s times, women didn’t have the right to own anything and were, therefore, fully dependent on men, specifically their husband. Therefore, I do understand the pressure for women at the time to make a smart marriage and marry someone who is able to provide for them and give them a comfortable life. That being said, I do think true soulmates will always find each other in the end and make a beautiful marriage, quite like Anne and Captain Wentworth did :)
