Consider this. We hear the first word Ghost Nell says to Luke as "Go" in his episode and then her second word is "Don't" , in the Burial scene. Seemingly disconnected words. But if you flip the perspective away from Luke's linear perception of time to Ghost Nell's perspective, you'll realize she's flasing through moments in reverse, so the actual order of her interrupted message is "Don't. Go." Meaning; Don't Go to the House, i would suggest. Because she knows he'll come after her.

Your reactions to this wonderful series are my favorites of the channel so far! This show truly is a marvelous piece of work and Mike Flanagan is such a talented writer-director and show runner. I'm excited to hear that you might watch his other two series as well. When you do get around to them, please keep an open mind and don't compare them to "Hill House". They're completely unrelated stories and are not as scary as "Hill House", but they're also definitely not trying to be. That's not to say that they don't have their scares, but the balance of their goals and interests lie in other directions. The Haunting of Bly Manor" (like the book and the original movie that inspired it) is more of a poignant gothic melodrama than a full on horror story, and "Midnight Mass" is a more cerebral examination of religion, faith or belief (of various kinds), as well as certain specific legends. These shows are all different beasts that share some of the same strengths: compelling characters played by wonderful actors, evocative, haunting an beautiful visuals, and the great dialogue and storytelling of Flanagan and his fellow writers, directors and filmmaking team.

First, your reaction to that jump scare in the car sums up probably most if not all of our reactions to watching the first time, I know that was pretty much me back when I first saw it, holy hell lol I wanted to say in regards to that particular jump scare, and my sister and I have talked about this a lot, is that it's one of the smartest jump scares ever done. It's really more than a simple jump scare for the sake of a scream; it was Nell screaming at her sisters to stop fighting. If you watch it with that in mind it's brilliant. Even in death Nell cares so much about her family's relationships and in that moment her investment in her sisters reached such a fever pitch that she inserts herself in between them, as you would when two people are fighting especially those you care about, and she just lets loose her frustration like "GUYS STOP IT ALREADY!!!" Jump scares are really overused and can be very lazy but not this one, and honestly pretty much all of the ones in the show don't feel that way, they feel effective and like they have purpose if you just think about them from a different perspective.

The jump scare scene with the sisters in the car, was actually a surprise to the two actresses in the front seat. Apparently it was written a different way and they told the actresses that they wanted to run a few more lines in the car and had the third actress hide in the backseat so when she jumped out it actually scared the other two and those are their genuine reactions. I honestly don't remember where I heard this it's been a while it could wrong however I remember trusting The source whenever I first learned this information. It's true probably easily verifiable.
