A much underrated movie that needs more love from reactors. Thanks. Also there are 2 alternative ends; 1st; Hackman's character did have another system to move the money to an account he had access to & donated all the money to charity leaving Travolta & Berry with only $500. 2nd; Travolta & Berry were just thieves & stole the money to live the high life on $9 Billion dollars.

The beginning shot with the ball bearing explosion was the "bullet time" camera setup from the Matrix. It was one of the first movies to use it like that after the Matrix had created it, and they did it probably the best way to show the destructiveness of the explosion. I watched this movie in the theater, and it was very amazing to watch that first sequence on the big screen and with the surround sound of the sound of destruction in slow motion. There is an alternate ending they had on the DVD where she goes to the bank at the end and the money isn't there... Stanley had it deposit into different accounts around the world to charitable organizations. She goes back to the boat and tells Gabrielle the money is gone, and he laughs because he thinks its funny that Stanley bested him. The ending is almost better, but I think a lot of people liked Gabrielle and were more excepting that he got the money and Stanley gets his daughter, so they went with the ending you saw. Also, they never outright say it but since they had a "body" for Gabrielle to look like he had died in the helicopter, its also possible the they had a stand-in for Ginger as well...which might mean they were actually stringing up someone who could choke to death and then shot her anyway at the end. Then both of them could get away and take on new identities again.

I absolutely loved Swordfish since the day it came out! It's the second movie to revive Travolta's career, since his previous flick, Battlefield Earth, nearly destroyed it. Swordfish is well cast, and I thoroughly enjoy the dialogue. The look and vibe of the film (the late night raves, slow motion, and saturated color scheme) is very much of the time it was made, but so much of the story is as timeless as Hitchcock. Most movies that try to tell a story like this make it far too convoluted, but this movie incorporates being convoluted into being part of its misdirection motif. The observations about film and entertainers makes backwards reflection on the film a lot of fun. There are so many points of misdirection, subversion, cons within cons happening here that it's less like an action movie, and more like a puzzle film masquerading as an action film.

If you don't end up with a pile of guilty pleasure movies starring John Travolta, what are you doing with your life lol. Seriously though, you got to do Broken Arrow, Face Off, From Paris With Love, The Talking of Pelham 123 (watch original first tho) if you love Travolta in this. He also steals the show in Die Hart and I feel his comedy chops are pretty under used these last couple of decades. Thank you for this reaction, this movie might be overshadowed into being a cult movie these days but it's a lot of fun.

One of the best explanations I ever saw for the title of this was a very inside cinematic joke. In the Marx Brothers (and you really need to check them out someday) movie Horse Feathers, "swordfish" is a code word. Ginger's full name is Ginger Knowles, which I take as a reference to Beyonce Knowles back when she was still lead singer for Destiny's Child. This movie came out mere months before 9-11, when we could still indulge in fantasies like a master counterterrorist being a crime lord unto himself.

Great reaction to an underrated gem. From the early 80s to the early 00s action movies were made to entertain... not to educate (e.g. how to hack properly) and/or be politically correct.
