I always knew the serissa was special, out of all your trees the serissa has always been the one that caught my eye (along with a few others) you’re always talking about how you don’t wire and it’s really impressive since it takes much longer to build a substantial tree without wire. Big congrats on the first place Nigel, truly truly deserved.

Congratulations Nigel and thanks for your great coverage of the TBS show. Seeing the viewing stones in this video reminds me of pictures i recently saw of a natural formation in Nevada USA called Bonsai Rock. Huge stones in a lake with 3 trees growing out of a crack in the middle..it would be a fun bonsai challenge for someone.

no diss to the other trees, but if another bonsai than the serissa would've won the award, i'd call it corruption :D it's one of the coolest tropicals world wide. i think you motivated many people out there to start more pierneef or flat top african style bonsais over the years with that tree.

Nigel. Quick question. What do you use for the grow lights? I plan to convert my sump pump closet into a "winter haven" for the trees I currently have on my deck. I'm in the Mineapolis area so my winters can get down to -20F! And great bonsai tree. I can see how it won an award.

37F/3C here. My tropicals still outside all day and night. I am forcing them into dormancy. My Tuna Cactus holding strong in the cold.

I have my Chinese elm outside all year long. They can stand -5 - - 10 Celsius no problem.
