Immersionrc ghost vs TBS Tracer is interesting. The ghost is capable of 222hz and soon capable of handle 500hz. I’ve already bought the ghost system. Upgraded from Crossfire and the difference is amazing.

I've done two Rx migrations and the migration to DJI, when I switched I only changed out one or two quads and just built new quads with the updated components. It's not hard to carry two an extra RF module with you and switch when you want to fly a different quad.

Because of the huge width of the 2.4GHz band it is actually less likely to have interference issues. Pretty much all the devices currently operating on 2.4GHz are operating on 100mw or less, so the impact is going to be low even in a super wifi dense area.

Hey man, firstly great video! Secondly, do you mind giving your opinion on 4-in-1 esc's vs individual ESC's? I finally built my first "racing quad" earlier this year and I'm already on my 3rd replacement. The first crash was pretty serious (a small flame lol), but the final two were small 6-8ft drops onto grass or mulch. I've had ppl suggest leaving the 4-in-1 alone, but can't I just 3d print something to protect the stack?

Interesting device. Wont be making a change any time soon but I could see my freestyle stuff on it while keeping my big LR stuff on Crossfire. All the reason to stay on a JR module radio and be able to hot swap between modules which is less an issue.

Thanks for your in depth opinion ❤. I currently run Crossfire on my Tango 2 and am thinking about using Tracer for the Backup Quad. But since the DJI Goggles are also running on 2,4 Ghz wouldn't it make sense to run Tracer on all of my Quads? Because if you can't fly 2,4 Ghz in an area with e.g. lots of Wifi the DJI Goggles also wont work, right? You think Tracer on 1W still outperforms the DJI Goggles on 1200mw with AXII 8db Patch Antennas and lots of trees?

I think you should do a blind test. Two identical quads. Two radios. One with Crossfire, one with Tracer. Put your goggles on, have someone else hand you a radio and power up the quad. Then see if you can tell which it is.

What you have is so damn good you’d never know unless you just have the perfect use case where you need the fastest of the fastest. Crossfire suited me perfectly for The last 4 years. JFYI Wifi is generally not frequency hopping. Sometimes a good access point would switch channel to avoid using an already congested one but that's it.

What’s up Mr. Steel have you tried the system with DJI digital yet ? I am very interested to hear your opinion whether it helps with the Latency chain associated with transmitter to drone VTX two goggles and the time all that takes if this brings it down to 3 ms on the transmitter and wouldn’t that lower the Latency Chain?? ??????? I’d love to hear what your experience and opinion is after using it. Can I not pick any RX TX of the same number on a flight controller to hook this up? I have wired this RX to TX and TX to RX, and my radio transmitter goes from Paired with the Radio (green light on the micro radio) to a solid red. I'm just getting started with TBS Tracer and from this indication, I'm not sure if I am linked back to the actual main transmitter. I have not yet set up Betaflight because I was concerned that I lost the green light to the main radio

This looks very interesting 🧐. I just ordered a Taranis qx7, fat shark scout, and the drone of choice is Diatone r349. I’m not sure about putting a Tracer receiver on my 3” but would it work? Maybe when I get a 5”. If I were to diy install this do I get rid of something or do I just install the receiver? I am very new to fpv. Haven’t even gotten my transmitter yet.

Yeah man any size drone can run any control link as long as the rx fits inside. You can just run one antenna if you don’t have room for 2 on a small drone. Hope this helps

Got nothing to do with that, the module has its own protocol. access and accesst are the protocols for frskys very own receivers n transmitter systems

I’m not sure the newer frsky stuff doesn’t work nicely with crsf. Which is the protocol between radio and module bay. There might be a nightly build of openTX that works. You’ll have to do a little digging

Hey Steele. Can you confirm your numbers on the latency? My understanding is Crossfire and CRSFshot do their thing at 1 sec / 150Hz = 0.006, so to me that's 6ms latency .... Yeah? Same goes for 1 / 300hz = 0.004 = 4ms latency for Tracer...

That my understanding as well - Crossfire @ 150Hz locked and running CRSFshot is ~6ms latency. Obviously if you don’t run 150Hz locked and CRSFshot, then you have more latency as Crossfire switches to 50Hz, and more variation without CRSFshot. But for short-range flying, Crossfire should be ~6ms AFAIK.

I referred to an Oskar liang post about cross fire. Might be a tad out dated or before 150jz refresh... but with that said. I run 150hz all the time and honestly it rarely stays at 150. I can feel it switching back to 50 when I fly super hard in urban areas. So I used the average which for me is 50hz. At around 14ms average. Tracer. From what I’ve been told is 3ms at 250hz. Could be slightly less could be slightly more. But I can say that the difference is night and day. And I doubt a difference of 2ms would be might and day. From 4-6ms like you’re saying. I think in that case it’s crossfire at its best possible. And tracer stirs average or worst. Maybe some things to think on. I’m not saying I’m right. Just stating my findings in using the product first hand. That’s all I’m here for :). Can barely tell you how it works. But when I comes to feeling the difference. I got that on lock

@@MrSteeleFPV Yeah I'm interested in getting ever closer to the 'now' myself. I race whoops indoors, and that extra connection with CRSF shot on Crossfire on the Tango II was really noticeable to me over FrSky. Even this lower latency between 6 & 4ms on Tracer, while mostly imperceptible, I think will still feel tighter and sharper than Crossfire and (obvs moreso) compared to other (slower) control links. Looking forward to having a play when I can justify the upgrade path costs... maybe that should be an IF. Cool tech anyways. Glad the control link latency is chasing down theoretical limits and that there are good companies pushing the envelope. Great time for the hobby.

@@MrSteeleFPV Totally agree! I think for anyone doing mid-range freestyle flying, the difference in latency will be super noticeable. I can even feel a difference between 150Hz and 50Hz when making quick moves at distance. For average racing pilots on the other hand, who run Crossfire on 150Hz locked mode, I think the difference between 150Hz and 250Hz isn't as meaningful. I just bought a crossfire nano starter kit for my birthday aswell as my first 5 inch, and I'm not sure now after this video if to return it to order (preorder) tracer lite and wait to fly... I feel like it would be a bit of a waste of money to have bought the crossfire if i'll end up on tracer anyway. But there's also ghost and we don't know which is better yet. That and I think link robustness is most important for me rather than marginal latency gain over an already low latency system...

@@MrSteeleFPV fair enough. I haven’t personally had any issues when flying with others. Tracer is hands down faster but for what it’s worth , trappy told me that for 150hz locked, he recommended 1w and above for being able to get range and a fast link. I typically fly locked at 500mw on 150hz and it gets me far enough for any office park or bando flow.

Don't get it the latency is lower cool & fun but then you fly ex. DJI your video will be around what 20ms so what is the added value ? am i overlooking something ?

You need to think about the total round trip latency. The time it takes your fingers to move the sticks, the radio to pick up the movement, send the commands to the drone, the drone to react, then the video from the drone sent back to your goggles and for the goggles to display the updated image. If you decrease latency in any part of that system, you improve the connected feeling you get.
